Description of Position

*This position will be assigned to the Prescott Campus 80% of the time but will be responsible for patrolling/providing service to all Yavapai College Campuses and Centers*
Under minimal supervision, enforces State of Arizona Criminal and Traffic statutes and Yavapai College Policies; dealing with vehicular parking, traffic control and overall maintenance and enforcement of public order.

- Provides physical security of all campus facilities by patrolling via vehicle, bicycle or by foot
- Responds to calls for assistance from students, faculty, staff, and visitors
- Other duties related to campus safety and security

- Must be certified as an AZ Police Officer or be able to successfully pass the AZ Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) waiver requirements for state certification

- Must be able to display expertise in areas of responsibility

- Must be able to learn and further develop professionally

- Must be able to work independently and adapt in a changing workplace

- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are required

- Physical ability is essential

- Must display a willingness to appreciate the differences in individuals

- Must successfully pass physical examination and polygraph test

- Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any State

- No pattern of traffic violations in the last 3 years

- No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories

- Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties

Preferred Skills & Abilities

- Two or more years as a certified police officer

- Experience beyond the minimums

- Experience in crime prevention

- Experience in making public presentations

- Investigation Experience

- A combination of training and/or experience substantially equivalent to a college degree in criminal justice, sociology, public relations, education, or other related field

- Work experience in a community college/higher education work environment.

Emergency public safety environment; travel to various areas within the county and various college campuses; exposure to emergency and disaster situations; exposure to potentially hostile environments; exposure to dangerous and/or hostile people; animal and human body fluids; hazards of emergency driving; hazards associated with traffic control and working in and near traffic; working in and near natural and man-made disasters; exposure to inclement weather conditions; may be required to work in and around heavy vehicles and equipment; possible exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes and gases when assisting in emergency calls; possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, high voltage and toxic materials; exposure to waste and infectious diseases; frequent contact with the public.
