                                               JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

The communications manager will develop and implement communication plans to recruit talented students to Wells College. The position will collaborate with admissions professionals, the Office of Marketing and Communications and other campus colleagues, as well as external partners to create a seamless and compelling enrollment experience for our audiences. The position requires excellence in writing, content development, design, and project management. Proficiency in communications (including Slate CRM) technology.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/TASKS:

 

  1. Develop inviting, engaging content (e-mails, websites, videos, social media, letters, etc.) to guide prospective students through the application, admission, financial aid and enrollment journey:
  • Write, edit and design content following Wells College brand standards 
  • Deliver content and messages through the full range of communications vehicles
  1. Collaborate with personnel within and outside the Admissions and Financial Aid offices to construct communication plans, create and deliver content. 
  2. Implement and manage communication plans within an email service provider and complex customer relationship management system. 
  3. Conduct research and develop expertise on Wells College including academic and co-curricular offerings, campus culture, alumni network, and the enrollment process. 
  4. Participate in the planning, promotion, and implementation of on-campus recruitment events -- including the development and delivery of associated media.
  5. Work directly with marketing firms and other partners.
  6. Correspond and maintain connections with prospective students through the full range of communications channels, such as social media, letters, phone calls, e-mail and in-person interactions.
  7. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. 
                    

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

Excellent technical, organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, handle confidential information in a professional manner, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, pay strict attention to details, and meet goals and deadlines. 

The candidate must possess:

  • A passion for creating and delivering compelling and engaging communications plans that result in brand awareness, relationship development, and organizational and student success
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • An appreciation the value of private higher education rooted in the liberal arts
  • Strong writing skills: clear expression of thought; attention to facts, details, and accuracy; ability to self-edit; ability to shift voice and style as project necessitates 
  • Strong computer skills: proficiency with Slate CRM; ability to manipulate images, design electronic and print publications, create and edit videos (Photoshop, InDesign, Camtasia, Vimeo, etc.) proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint; ability to learn and use new software programs as needed to fulfill job duties 
  • Ability to dissect and digest complex systems, analyze data and apply conditional logic 
  • Ability to form collaborative working relationships with others, including academic divisions
  • Excellent customer service skills 
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Preference will go to candidates who possess: 

  • Online communications & e-recruiting experience
  • Web editing skills: Working knowledge of HTML (e.g. images, anchors, links, styles, lists, etc.); conceptual understanding of CSS and CMS (i.e., understand how to navigate and work)
  • A master’s degree

 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Bachelor’s degree 

 

HOURS OF WORK:

 35-40 hours per week plus weekends as needed.
