Department Summary:

UNT Physics offers BS/BA, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. It also offers a BS/MS accelerated program for students to obtain both BS and MS degrees in 5 years. In addition to general physics, its undergraduate program offers Engineering Physics, Computational Physics, and Astronomy concentrations.

Position Overview:

Responsible for graduate student recruitment; maintain and update alumni files; departmental social media, aide with graduate/undergraduate registration

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and one year of experience in recruiting, academic advising, counseling, student services, customer service or related experience or can substitute education for experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong presentation skills and problem solving skills.
• Developed interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Products.
• Ability to obtain credit card for travel.
• Good driving record and access to a vehicle.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Professional in appearance, motivated, self-directed and have the ability and willingness to communicate enthusiastically with diverse populations in a positive, courteous and professional manner.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Willingness to travel extensively.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Three years of higher education academic experience.
* Strong organizational skills are mandatory due to the complex coordination efforts required for this position.

o:

Regularly assists students in securing advising and advises students, and aid with graduate registration.

o:

Attends graduate committee meetings, and communicates on behalf of the GAC Chair in his or her absence.

o:

Coordinatation of updates to the graduate handbook

o:

Coordinates and prepares the Ph.D. Qualifier examinations, including communications with students and faculty.

o:

Prepares degree plans for graduate students, monitors students progress according to Department and Graduate School regulations.Informs students of important program deadlines and requirements.

o:

Correspondence with people interested in UNT and the Physics graduate programs.

o:

Maintains all student records, and updates list of e-mail addresses of all of active graduate students in the Department. Also aids in gathering alumi data

o:

Represents the Department at local and national recruiting opportunities in order to promote the Department and recruit students.

o:

Represents the Department at the Council of Advisors Meetings in the absence or request of the Graduate Advisor; along with attending the graduate advisor meetings held by the Graduate School and by the College.

o:

Works with faculty coordinator on guest speakers for the colloquium; including the tasks of communications, budget and reimbursements. Will also send out information to faculty, staff and students via e-mail on colloquium lectures.
