Postdoctoral Fellow/Trainee

Nature of Work:

The Department of Medicine/Division of Infectious Diseases seeks a full-time post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of J. David Beckham, M.D.  This laboratory is funded by NIH and VA grants to investigate immune responses to RNA virus infections in the central nervous system. Research in the lab focuses on applying techniques in virology, immunology, and neuroscience to understand the pathogenesis of RNA virus infections and develop diagnostic and vaccine approaches.

This is a full-time position located at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The laboratory is located in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology.  Working hours are 8:00 to 5:00 weekdays and occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently under the supervision of the principal investigator and research faculty within the laboratory in the design, performance and analysis of experiments.

Specific Position Duties with Percentages of Time:

1st area of responsibility: 50% 

Using a flavivirus cloning system in the laboratory, the post-doctoral trainee will develop and analyze immune responses to attenuated flavivirus isolates using various culture and murine models in the laboratory. This work is focused on developing novel live, attenuated vaccines for flavivirus infections.

2nd area of responsibility: 40% 

Working with a multidisciplinary group in the laboratory, the successful candidate will utilize several murine models in the laboratory to study immune responses in the central nervous system that contribute to a variety of diseases including encephalitis and neurodegeneration. This portion of the project is focus on using models to study neuroimmunology in the brain.

3rd area of responsibility: 10%

Participate in the multidisciplinary research, education and training of a diverse group of trainees in the laboratory that includes medical and graduate school students, post-graduate trainees, and research assistants.

Salary and Benefits:

The estimated salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $53,760 to $65,292.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

1) A PhD or MD/PhD in the fields of microbiology, immunology, neuroscience or a related field.

2) Research expertise in the fields of virology, immunology, neuroscience or a related field as evident by past publications and training experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1) Eligible to apply for NIH F32 awards and relevant post-doctoral slots for T32 training.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
