Position Summary:

The HR Specialist is a member of the Human Resources team with primary responsibility for support and coordination of human resources functions with an emphasis in the areas of classification, compensation, performance management, and providing technical support and oversight of the Cornerstone OnDemand (CSOD) talent management system, also known as Talent@UNCA. Classification and Compensation is a vital function within the Office of Human Resources. The employee in this position has responsibility for establishing new positions, reviewing position responsibilities to determine appropriate placement within the classification system, analyzing salary information related to external market and internal equity, completing salary surveys, formulating recommendations for salary adjustments and reclassifications, and recommending changes/enhancements in organizational design structure. The employee will lead the effort to implement and maintain a state-of-the-art talent management solution with components for Applicant Tracking, Onboarding, Learning Management, Performance Management, and Reporting/Analytics. The goal is to build streamlined business processes, and best practices across several HR areas. The employee in this position is expected to be a versatile member of the HR team working across the University in system implementation for learning and organizational development opportunities that have campus wide impact. This position will also work with supervisors and employees during performance management cycles, providing guidance, training and oversight. The employee will assist with other Human Resources projects as needed. This position requires the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy, and the ability apply general human resources policies and procedures. The employee must be able to maintain confidentiality, and must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. This position provides support functions to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Office of Human Resources.

Minimum Education/Experience/Skills:

Graduation from a four year college or university; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree with course work in human resources, business administration, management, organizational development, psychology, or related field.
  • Ability to learn human resources processes and procedures.
  • 1-3 years of experience in human resources would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of talent management solutions (such as Cornerstone On Demand), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (preferably Banner).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to process requests with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities; able to effectively prioritize work and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal communications. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituents, including employees, members of the HR management team, and in group presentations and meetings.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Must be adept at problem-solving, including being able to identify issues and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the campus community and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively read and interpret information, present numerical data in a resourceful manner, and skillfully gather and analyze information
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Apps.
  • An in-depth understanding of a higher education information systems, report writing development, electronic forms development and functional expertise with the full array of primary enterprise applications used in higher education.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and material in a reliable manner.
  • Prior experience in higher education would be a plus.

Work Schedule and Hours:

Typical office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Occasional evenings and weekends may be needed to meet the needs of the department.
