Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Creating a positive learning environment for every learner at on the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) campus is a top priority. The Project Coordinator for Student Life will work under the direction of the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Life or designee on initiatives to ensure a safe, secure and positive learning environment for all learners on campus, including students from the School of Medicine (SOM), Graduate School of Nursing (GSN), Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS), post-doctoral scholars and residents/fellows in Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work collaboratively on a team to develop programs and processes that will improve the learning environment in health professions education across our three graduate schools
  • Collaborate on the development of wellness initiatives and events, development and coordination of our campus code of conduct and learning compact between learners and educators
  • Track and report on student concerns regarding the learning environment
  • Support the work of the three-school Committee on Student Well-Being, helping to create a welcoming environment for our learners, with the goal of enhancing satisfaction, well-being, and student success.
  • Coordinate and monitor assigned program activities as described above.
  • Review and analyze data relating to program effectiveness.
  • Make recommendations for changes in procedures and guidelines and formulate strategies for accomplishing program objectives.
  • Develop and implement procedures and guidelines to accomplish assigned program objectives and goals.
  • Confer with management staff to determine program requirements and availability of resources and assist in developing program evaluation criteria and standards.
  • Evaluate program activities and make recommendations for program modifications.
  • Review existing regulations that pertain to programs and services and make recommendations for improvements or changes, with specific attention to policies and regulations related to the learning environment, learner mistreatment, and relevant programs in higher education.
  • Comply with established policies and requirements, procedures and department objectives.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all business documents and correspondence per UMMS procedures and FERPA regulations
  • Perform other related program duties as assigned.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM, business or related field; or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in STEM field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in program administration, student recruitment, student affairs, student diversity or related educational experience.
  • Experience working with students pursuing or interest in advanced degrees in biomedical science, medicine and/or nursing
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, inclusion, equity, and restorative justice with regard to investigating and adjudicating learning environment/mistreatment concerns.
  • Excellent data management skills are critical, and the ability to juggle multiple competing demands is essential
  • Ability to understand, apply and explain pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to relate and communicate well with a diverse client population.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both writing and oral presentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work appropriately with confidential information.
  • Skilled in problem solving and team building
  • Effective negotiating skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills needed to interact with all organizational levels
  • Demonstrated ability to assess priorities and operate in a flexible manner.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer-based tools including email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database environments.
