The Department of Theatre is a dynamic department dedicated to comprehensive undergraduate theatre training via a program of study (BA in Theatre) defined by its commitment to breadth of understanding, hands-on experience, and demonstrated excellence in Acting, Directing, Design, Playwriting, Dramaturgy, History, Literature, and Management.
The Department of Theatre invites applications for an adjunct faculty to teach THEA 1810 Page to Stage to undergraduate majors in our department. This intro course explores the process playwrights, directors, actors, and designers use in creating a theatrical production. Individual sections may focus on single areas only.
The University operates on a quarter system (10 weeks of classes and the final week). We are offering two, 4-credit hour course which will be taught on campus/face-to-face in the Fall Quarter 2021 at the University of Denver. Fall classes begin September 11, 2021 and end November 23, 2021. Job requirements include teaching twice a week, holding office hours, assigning papers and exams as appropriate, and being available to assist students with assignments.
*A final will be scheduled by the Registrars office to occur between November 20-23.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Background and expertise in Theatre.
- Previous teaching experience (e.g. as a Teaching assistant with classroom discussion sections and grading responsibilities as part of a Master's or Doctoral program) and clear promise of ability to teach at the college level.
- Experience or willingness to learn course management software for teaching online or conventional classes (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas, or similar), especially features including assignment submission, discussion boards, quizzes, announcements, files, and the gradebook.
- Availability to teach classes "face-to-face" in physical classrooms at the University of Denver.
- Master's degree, PhD or ABD in theatre or relevant field.
Adjunct faculty are compensated at a rate of $4,233 per course.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
