Detailed Description:The Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Diego announces a tenure-track position in Religious Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. Area of specialization is Buddhist Studies with a focus on South Asia and/or East Asia. The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate active engagement in broader conversations surrounding theory and method in the study of religion through their teaching and scholarship.
The position carries a 3-3 teaching load. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory courses as well as upper-division courses in the area(s) of specialization, and may include courses that fulfill the Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice requirement in our core curriculum. The candidate would be expected to teach lower division courses (such as Introduction to World Religions and Exploring Religious Meaning) in alignment with core learning outcomes. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and scholarship are preferred.
Candidates with a subspecialty or demonstrated interest in the topics of "Climate Change and Environmental Justice" or "Borders and Social Justice" will join other scholars in a cluster cohort with faculty across multiple departments. Candidates should indicate an interest in one of these areas in their letters of intent and include a statement about their interest in a cluster theme in their application.
