Job Description Summary
The Chief of Staff is responsible for coordinating and advancing the work of the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Engagement (VPSE) under the direction of the Vice Provost. The Chief of Staff serves as a senior adviser to the Vice Provost; assists in facilitating effective divisional decision-making and coordinates the execution of strategic initiatives; participates in and facilitates regular meetings with VPSE staff, University, and external colleagues to support strategic priorities and management functions; handles highly confidential, sensitive matters or inquiries to the VPSE, determines the proper course of action, and delegates to the appropriate individual(s) to manage; liaises with external stakeholders and organizations, coordinating meetings and follow-up on behalf of the VPSE; and serves as the administrator on the Executive Committee for the Provost's Campaign for Community grant fund.

The Office of the VPSE oversees key initiatives, communications, stakeholder engagement, and special projects, and the role of the Chief of Staff is critical to ensuring the operational efficiency of these areas of responsibility. The Chief of Staff must be able to deliver high quality work within clearly defined timelines.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage and oversee projects and initiatives to achieve VPSE priorities and objectives
  • Research, write, and communicate on organizational priorities and objectives
  • Gather data, compile information, and prepare reports and presentations
  • Perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects
  • Manage logistics of VPSE speaking engagements
  • Provides executive assistant and management support for the Vice Provost for Student Engagement (VPSE)
  • Oversees the workflow of the Student Engagement office and administration, including communications and website management


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA/BS required. Seven years of progressively responsible administrative work experience, preferably in a University setting.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments independently.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare aesthetic, comprehensive, and informative reports.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and diverse constituencies, handle highly-confidential information, and complete multiple complex tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures,
  • formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal, electronic, and written communication skills;
  • impeccable managerial and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments and divisions essential.
  • Must be able to attend evening meetings as needed.
  • Working knowledge of University budgets, human resource and payroll policies and procedures a plus. Knowledge of the BEN financial system and Workday also a plus.
