Job Details:Law Enforcement Officer, Sergeant – Internal Posting Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Law Enforcement Officer, Sergeant (Law Enforcement Officer II) in the Department of Public Safety. Duties will include, but are not limited to: proactively patrols assigned areas and observes for criminal and traffic violations and/or other suspicious activity; enforces University rules, state and local laws, issues citations and/or makes arrests in accordance with the law and the general orders; answers call for service; conducts investigations on accidents and criminal activity, secures, preserves and compiles evidence; questions suspects and/or witnesses and takes statements; serves as a commanding officer of a designated shift and supervises that shift in the absence of the Lieutenant; responsibilities include: issuing work assignments, designated areas to be patrolled; training new employees; observing performance/ assisting in evaluating staff; reviewing written reports; preparing incident reports, submitting reports concerning shift activities, and keeping command staff informed of situations; acts as a team leader on the shift; makes documentation of all enforcement and investigative activities and incidents; completes proper departmental forms, performs follow-up investigations; regulates and, when needed, directs pedestrian and vehicular traffic; and other duties as assigned. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and prior work experience as a certified police officer are required. Must be a certified class I law enforcement officer in the State of South Carolina, must possess a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. A college degree is preferred. Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalent. Prior experience as a police officer.
Preferred Qualifications:College education preferred.
Required Licensure and/or Certification:Must be a certified police officer in the state of South Carolina. Must have or be able to obtain a valid SC driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Must possess good verbal and written skills. Ability to interact successfully within a diverse academic community. An employee needs to have an understanding that many young adults require guidance and tolerance rather than sterner measures.
