Position Summary:Provide academic advising services to students at the University of Georgia, Honors College, and assist Honors students with questions regarding the program’s academic requirements and graduation distinctions.
The advisor in this position will have an office in Memorial Hall, while the other advisors in the Honors College are housed in Moore Hall.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of academic advising and the University’s policies and procedures, and have the ability to communicate them. Important characteristics are self-motivation, attention to detail, strong organization skills, effective problem solving, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, and ability to work effectively with undergraduate students. The candidate will be expected to handle sensitive situations and documentation in a caring and confidential manner, and work with minimal supervision and in a professional, team-oriented environment, demonstrating respect and appreciation for diversity and inclusion.
The advisor will be able to work independently and separately from the other
Honors College advisors, and will be expected to go to Moore Hall to perform some of the duties of the position, and to contribute to some Honors College programs, team meetings, and various activities

Duties/Responsibilities:Academic advising:
•Provide primary academic advising to first and second year Honors students majoring in various arts & sciences disciplines, including undecided students, regarding all requirements of their programs of study;
•Provide primary academic advising to intended business, intended journalism and mass communications, and intended pharmacy Honors student, regarding program and admission requirements;
•Provide secondary advising to Honors students whose primary advisor is not in Honors;
•Discuss minors, certificates and other academic opportunities including experiential learning and Double Dawgs programs;
•Provide referrals to pre-professional offices and other UGA resources;
•Maintain student records in SAGE advising system and DegreeWorks planner;
•Assist lead advisor with data management and organization of advising;
•Provide weekly walk-in hours to assist both lower and upper division Honors students

Duties/Responsibilities:First Year Orientation:
•Provide comprehensive academic advising for incoming first year Honors students throughout the entirety of summer orientation;
•Assist lead advisor with preparation of summer orientation documents, and organization and implementation of orientation events, including speaking at admitted Honors student welcome presentations.

Duties/Responsibilities:Honors Advising/Graduation Processing:
•Meet with Honors student to review their progress toward and assess eligibility for Honors College graduation distinction, including final processing of exit reviews;
•Meeting with students to discuss Honors academic standing policy, probation, dismissal, etc.
•Assist lead advisor with graduation processing tasks.

Duties/Responsibilities:Professional Development:
•Attend Honors College staff meetings, Honors advisors’ meetings, advisor workshops, advising certificate courses, and other professional development opportunities;
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the requirements of multiple majors in the Franklin, Terry, and Grady Colleges as well as admission requirements for the UGA College of Pharmacy;
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the academic of opportunities available to students (minors, certificates, experiential learning opportunities, Double Dawgs, etc.)
•Maintain up-to-date knowledge of admission requirements for various professional programs.

Duties/Responsibilities:Scholarship Review:
•Serve on committees to review various applications for Honors.
Honors Programming & Events:
•Assist as needed with various events sponsored by the Honors College, including the Spring CURO Symposium and the Foundation Fellows Interview weekend.
Other duties as assigned by the Dean and Associate Dean of the Honors College.
