  • This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Gift Planning Services in the promotion of planned gifts, and gift and estate planning services to Wheaton College donors, and in the support of Development staff in promoting and setting up planned gifts to the College.
  • The Associate Director of Gift Planning Services reports to the Director of Gift Planning Services (Director) and may assist the Director in supervising the Gift Planning Services Office Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director and the Regional Directors of Development in presenting, explaining, and closing planned gifts with specific planned gift prospects.
  • Assist in planning and administering the program of providing estate planning analysis to the College’s high net worth donors and monitoring the results of such estate planning analysis in the implementation of testamentary and intervivos planned gifts.
  • Assist Director in planning and administering the program of providing general estate and gift planning seminars for constituents of Wheaton College, and monitoring the results of such seminars in the implementation of testamentary and intervivos deferred gifts.
  • Maintain a travel schedule necessary to accomplish points 1-3 above.
  • Attend and participate in all departmental planned gift marketing meetings. Stay abreast of planned gift marketing trends and ideas, write marketing pieces, and provide strategic marketing input to the Director and the Advancement Marketing Specialist.
  • Assist the Director in maintaining, reviewing, and preparing legal documents relating to gift planning, including model trust agreements, gift annuity contracts, and life income agreements.
  • Assist the Director in the ongoing professional training and education of Development personnel involved in soliciting or accepting planned gifts from individual donors.
  • Assist Director in advising the Advancement Division and Investment Department on legal issues affecting gifts to the College, and the administration of such gifts.
  • Maintain College charitable solicitation registration as required by certain states including keeping track of deadlines, providing information to outside vendor, reviewing vendor’s submissions, confirming certifications with state, and College General Counsel.
  • Study and stay current on laws relating to estate and gift planning.

  • Juris Doctor or similar degree
  • Previous exposure to gift planning or estate planning
  • Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • State Law license
  • Experience with computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
