The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry has just welcomed their new Department Chair, C. Neill Epperson, MD and is in the process of growing the Department of Psychiatry with new programs and expanding existing programs.

Nature of Work

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus seeks a Professional Research Assistant/ Senior Professional Research Assistant (Sr PRA) to work in the Department of Psychiatry, Behavioral Health and Wellness Program (BHWP).  BHWP is a multi-disciplinary Center of Excellence for public policy, research, training, and clinical care. We offer training and technical assistance on tobacco cessation treatment, overall health and wellness across the lifespan, and Motivational Interviewing. We work with communities, healthcare facilities, and public health and governmental agencies to promote health and wellness in priority populations. We also offer training and consultation to healthcare providers, administrators, and peer advocates. Our mission is to improve quality of life by facilitating evidence-based health behavior change for communities, organizations, and individuals. This position will assist in developing and implementing evaluation plans for national, state, and locally funded projects, both within BHWP (i.e. internal evaluation projects) as well as for partner agencies conducting community-based programming (i.e. external evaluation projects). Additionally, the position will assist in other research activities such as conceptualizing and developing grant proposals, preparing documents and proposals for CO Institutional Review Board (COMIRB), evaluating new wellness curricula, conducting literature searches and reviews, writing and editing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed outlets along with other products and resources, preparing presentations and webinars, and developing research surveys, questionnaires, and assessments. This position will also assist in collecting, managing, analyzing, and reporting data.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend meetings with community partners to assess evaluation needs related to new programming efforts
  • Assist community partners with coordinating work-flow processes related to data collection
  • Develop and administer surveys for use across a broad range of projects
  • Create and manage multiple databases for tracking outcomes at the level of organization, provider, and client
  • Assist with data analysis and visualization
  • Create reports summarizing evaluation processes and outcomes for dissemination to key stakeholders including national, state, and local funders, policy makers, and healthcare leadership
  • Assist with grant proposal development and preparation
  • Prepare documents related to human subjects review (i.e. COMIRB proposals and application materials, informed consent, etc.)
  • Assisting with writing, editing, formatting, and submitting academic manuscripts
  • Assist team with researching, preparing, and updating evidence-based resources for dissemination
  • Research and prepare PowerPoint presentations on a variety of wellness-related topics for in-person or webinar delivery to audiences including researchers, healthcare providers, and policy makers
 

Salary Offered or Salary Range

PRA 

$35,600 - $55,800 

This salary range represents a level 1 – level 3 PRA.  The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.  The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible. 

Sr. PRA 

$49,000 - $74,500 

This salary range represents a level 1 – level 3 Sr. PRA.  The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.  The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. 

This information represents up to the 50 percentile of the salary range which is reflective of a candidate with 1-7+ years of experience. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.  The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

PRA: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in relevant field. 
  • 3 years experience designing and implementing program evaluations and/or research projects within community organizations and/or healthcare agencies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research design and/or data analysis in at least one of the following ways:
  • Authorship on at least one academic publications with a research component and described role on the paper
  • Instructor or teaching assistant for a course with a research component
  • Experience managing a research lab or training other professional research assistants on procedures related to data collection, survey development, seeking regulatory approval, etc.
  • Investigator or other relevant role on an extramurally-funded grant with a research component
Senior PRA: 

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in relevant field, or bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 5 plus years of relevant experience
  • 3 years experience designing and implementing program evaluations and/or research projects within community organizations and/or healthcare agencies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research design and/or data analysis in at least one of the following ways:Authorship on at least one academic publications with a research component and described role on the paperInstructor or teaching assistant for a course with a research component Experience managing a research lab or training other professional research assistants on procedures related to data collection, survey development, seeking regulatory approval, etc. Investigator or other relevant role on an extramurally-funded grant with a research component
Preferred Qualifications (Applicable for all Ranks)

  • Experience managing data sets using Excel or other equivalent software
  • Experience with analysis, synthesis, and visualization of qualitative and quantitative data using relevant statistical software packages
  • Experience preparing written reports and presentations detailing research or evaluation processes and outcomes
  • Experience preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed academic outlets
  • Experience with COMIRB or other institutional review board
  • Experience developing grant proposals for submission
