Your opportunity:

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (LMP) occupies a unique position at theinterface between basic biomedical science and clinical practice. We are an assembly of over 350 investigators, scientists, and clinicians, who educate and mentor trainees pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical studies, engaged in investigating disease mechanisms and patterns and translating new knowledge and discoveries into improved health outcomes for patients and populations.

As Translational Research Program Officer, you will serve as a key resource for students and faculty of the Translational Research Program (TRP); a two-year professional Masters of Health Science program, where our students learn to catalyze transformation of scientific discoveries into problem solving applications that benefit human health. You willlead recruitment initiatives and promote the program to prospective students and employers. You will build close relationships with students as you track and facilitate their success through the program and beyond. Leveraging your well-developed analytical and problem solving skills, you will support the Program Director and senior program leadership in building an enriched and inclusive curriculum and learning experience, and seeking opportunities to engage organizational partners in the process.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on program and course requirements and providing support and general referrals to students in distress
  • Analyzing, scoring, ranking incoming applications
  • Promoting programs at recruitment events and promoting partnerships with internal and external organizations
  • Determining logistics and activities for events and programming
  • Coordinating the production and distribution of communications materials and writing grant applications
  • Analyzing service delivery and internal processes and recommending improvements
  • Directing the activities of a staff-appointed employee

+Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a university environment coordinating academic programs
  • Demonstrated student recruitment experience, including coordinating events and developing promotional and outreach materials
  • Experience fostering partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including prospective students and faculty
  • Experience collecting, interpretation and analyzing data from multiple sources for reporting
  • Experience preparing communication materials and grant applications
  • Experience developing new procedures and processes and seeing them through from conception toimplementation, and evaluating existing programs and systems and making recommendations for change
  • Experience supervising appointed staff within a unionized environment
  • Advanced proficiency working with MS Office Suite, learning management systems, content management systems, survey tools and e-mail marketing tools (MailChimp, Constant Contact)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate with a diverse audience
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to persuade, encourage and motivate others while fostering strong relationships and coordinating teams
  • Proven ability to assume responsibility and manage own work with little supervision or direction while supervising and supporting staff
  • Possesses exceptional organizational skills and the flexibility to quickly adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines while working with high volumes and competing deadlines
  • Proactive and highly resourceful with a strong aptitude for analyzing situations and data and applying solid problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to predict the need for changes and react quickly to make recommendations and/or implement new policies/processes
  • Shows sound judgment in the handling of sensitive and confidential matters
  • Conducts all business in a welcoming and professional manner

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Knowledge of the Faculty of Medicine and its hospital and industry affiliations
  • Knowledge of University and graduate policies and procedures with regard to the School of Graduate Studies (SGS)
