Reporting to the Executive Director, Executive Programs, the Director, Governance Programs is a member of the leadership team of Executive Programs that plans and develops the Rotman School’s executive education activities on a long term, strategic and shorter term, tactical basis. Additionally, the Director works closely with the National Academic Directors of Governance Programs, other Academic Directors, faculty and Executive Programs Business Development staff.

Working as an integral part of Executive Programs’ leadership team, the Director, Governance Programs is responsible for the overall running of a business unit which is directed to a specific market sector(s). Business units are typically defined as generating revenues from the design and delivery of executive education programs in excess of $5 million. As the business unit Director, s/he is responsible for ensuring the smooth and profitable running of all aspects of the business including product development, quality control, sales, budget and human resource management.

The Director is a catalyst and conduit bringing together various parties - clients, academic directors and faculty, advisory boards, other institutions and partnerships, administrative managers and delivery teams involved in the development and delivery of exceptional executive education learning partnerships that are profitable and customer-focused. The Director works with other teams who are managing some programs targeted to a common market sector over which the Director has oversight responsibility. This role requires vision, strong leadership skills and the ability to grow, as well as manage, a significant business. The Director needs to ensure that all members of the team are working together, that knowledge is leveraged and that quality control methodologies are in place to ensure effective and efficient program delivery that meet the expectations of clients and participants.

The Director will be interacting with senior business leaders and decision-makers. This role requires maturity and business acumen to represent the Rotman School with credibility and trust. The incumbent must be a leader who can develop and maintain strong and productive relationships across varied constituent groups who will often have competing demands and priorities. The ability to bring a team together to work effectively and efficiently towards common goals will be an important skill.

I. EDUCATION:

  • University degree in a relevant field of study; Graduate Degree is an asset, preferably in business or adult education. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

II. EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant, progressive business and/or adult education experience is required. Knowledge of governance function and trends is an asset.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience managing and leading staff, preferably in a unionized environment. Strong project management experience with administrative responsibilities and strong business development/customer service experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience, in developing new business, and managing new and existing business relationships.
  • A deep knowledge and understanding of, or strong demonstrated interest in, executive development, management learning, program design, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Hands-on’ experience in educational design and delivery would be a plus
  • Highly developed organizational, communication and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional decorum and make sound judgments under pressure and stress.
  • Ability to interact with senior members of the business community
  • A leader with demonstrated decision-making skills.
  • Highly customer service oriented with sensitivity to various levels of expectation from corporate executives, faculty and staff.
  • Financially strong with the ability to develop and manage budgets and to negotiate contracts.
  • Proven track record of managing large complex projects.
