The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. Project CASCADES (Creating a Sustainable Canadian Health System in a Climate Crisis) is a nationally coordinated effort by the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, Dalhousie University, and the Canadian Coalition for Green Healthcare to mobilize the transition to a high quality, low-carbon, resilient health system. Directed by Professor Fiona Miller, CASCADES’ objectives are twofold: 1) To build capacity across Canada’s healthcare community to promote and deliversustainable healthcare, and; 2) To coordinate a national approach to the cultivation, selection, support, and scaling-up of sustainable healthcare innovations in service delivery and system design.

The Communications and Events Coordinator will support Project CASCADES’ marketing and outreach strategies nationally along with contributing to the execution of outreach events, and supporting efforts to deliver products (and, where feasible, services) in both official languages. Using your strong communication skills, you will foster and maintain networks to build capacity and collaboration. Your strong analytical and project management skills will enable you to effectively promote programs and service offerings to targeted audiences. Your background and experience supporting marketing and events, especially in health and/or sustainability contexts, will contribute to advancing the overall goals and initiatives of CASCADES.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing communication and community relations outreach plans
  • Advising internal project stakeholders on marketing, advertising, branding strategies for multimedia channels
  • Designing surveys, interviews, post event evaluation and other research tools and analyzing data to determine trends and recommend target markets
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials, editing content and reviewing communication materials for distribution
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities including determining logistical details, liaising with vendors, maintaining event calendar, booking rooms
  • Delivering presentations outlining proposals to attract sponsorship opportunities and handling expenses for events
  • Working with translation service professionals to ensure timely availability of CASCADES’ deliverables in both English and French

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in arelevant field or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum four years of related experience working in media, communications or public relations, preferably in a health care, environmental sustainability or allied professional context
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communications strategies and plans
  • Experience creating and editing content (brochures, newsletters, websites and/or handbooks), layout/production and desktop publishing
  • Experience working with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and generating positive media coverage
  • Demonstrated experience with social media and digital communications in a professional setting, including tracking andreporting on meaningful metrics
  • Experience with planning and coordinating logistics for in-person and virtual events
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise video communication platforms (e.g. Zoom, MS Teams)
  • Demonstrated experience conducting post-event evaluations and analysis, and designing surveys
  • Experience coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Working knowledge of electronic, print media and marketing techniques
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Web content management and design software including Adobe Creative Suite or related tools
  • Familiarity with online registration software (e.g., Eventbrite) and survey software
  • Excellent attention to detail and solid copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Understanding the needs and sensitivities of different audiences and adapting appropriate writing style and content
  • Client-services oriented with demonstrated listening and critical thinking skills
  • Strong decision-making skills; superior planning and project management skills with a focus on executing and competing tasks under pressure and within deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively individually and within a team environment while coordinating tasks and events showing creativity, initiative and strong judgement
  • Ability to maintain a broad perspective; strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, senior administration and external constituents
  • Bilingualism is required; English and French, written and verbal
