The Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invite applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Computational Medicine and Biology. This will be a joint appointment between the Department of Computer Science (51%) and the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology (49%) at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an expected start date of January 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.

 

The successful candidate is expected to develop a proposal for and serve as the inaugural Director for the Educational Program in Computational Biomedicine at the University of Toronto, to be jointly administered by the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. The Director will be charged with developing and leading world-class educational programs in Computational Medicine and Computational Biology while fostering collaborations with cognate departments, the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence, and the Temerty Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research and Education in Medicine (T-CAIREM).

 

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field with a clearly demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research, with a focus on computational medicine, and in teaching, with a focus on data science.

 

We seek candidates who demonstrate an exceptional record of excellence in teaching and research and whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

 

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be evidenced primarily by a mature research program with a sustained record of research contributions at the highest international levels expected of a leading researcher, as demonstrated by sustained high impact publications in top ranked and field-relevant academic journals, the submitted research statement, invited presentations at top international conferences, distinguished research awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline as well as exceptional endorsements by referees of highest international stature.

 

Evidence for excellence in teaching will be provided through strong letters of reference, and a teaching dossier containing a strong statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi and course materials, teaching accomplishments, accolades and teaching evaluations.

 

In addition to a record of research and teaching excellence, the successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working in both university and hospital settings, possess and demonstrate outstanding leadership, administrative management, communication, and relationship-building skills clearly demonstrated through the application materials.

 

Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
