Responsibilities

Produces monthly electronic newsletter working with others to plan, develop and write content and manages distribution. Writes press releases, content for the website and for social media. Contributes to annual publications with writing and editing. Contributes with writing and occasional project management for informational flyers and brochures.

Shares news and other items produced by the dept on social media channels and engages other FSU colleges, departments and university social media channels in helping to spread word of CoM success. Ensures proper use of social media by other depts within CoM, students, faculty, and staff, by providing guidance in following CoM policy related to social media use. Frequently monitors related social media channels to maintain awareness of how CoM is being portrayed & to make the director aware of any inappropriate conversation or actions on those channels. Regularly updates CoM social media policy. Stays abreast of best practices and innovations in social media messaging by engaging with CASE, AAMC, and by following and observing use of social media by peer institutions. Utilizes social media in coordination with strategic initiatives undertaken by the dept on behalf of CoM. Assists the alumni relations and events manager and the director in utilizing social media to further dept efforts related to communications, public affairs, and alumni relations. Assists in harnessing social media for fundraising efforts initiated by the development office, not limited to Dance Marathon, the FSU Great Give, and special projects. Takes a lead role in use of EMMA or other email software to ensure CoM can reach its audience with digital news and announcements.

Works on special projects as assigned by the director to enhance community engagement. This includes assisting .in updating databases as part of a regular and systematic effort, focusing on removing duplicates, maintaining current addresses, and updating/correcting issues that arise when mailers are returned with incorrect addresses for both the PR Contacts database and the Alumni Database.

Assists the event coordinator in special events, including helping to manage the relationship with FSU undergrads involved in Dance Marathon. Participates in occasional after-hours activity (nights and weekends) to provide support that may include administrative or other tasks as assigned by the department director. These responsibilities are part of being a team player to ensure the department carries out its duties in representing the College of Medicine and in contributing to the college's success.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience or a high school diploma/equivalent and six years of experience. Note: Higher education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.
  • Experience using social media and an understanding effective social media communication methods.
  • Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Experience prioritizing, organizing, and performing multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word or equivalent software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment.
  • Ability to write and/or proofread and edit written word and/or information in various formats.
  • Valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain upon hire.
Preferred
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of event planning and ability to coordinate, organize and evaluate meetings and/or events.
  • Knowledge of public relations practices.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
  • Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials.
  • Ability to represent the University in appointed area as required.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.

Anticipated Salary Range

Anticipated starting salary of $35,000-$45,000.
