Department Summary:

HSC Health is the academic clinical practice plan for the Health Science Center. Focused on primary care and improving health outcomes to all to build a healthier community, HSC Health has 13 unique clinics on the HSC campus as well as an off-site obstetrics and genecology location in medical district of Fort Worth. In each clinic, an interprofessional team works collaboratively to achieve an optimized treatment plan tailored to the individual patient. Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, specialized technicians, and nurses work together as well as intentionally integrate health care students, residents, and fellows into patient care and commit to train providers of the future within the clinical practice.

Position Overview:

The HSC Health Family Medicine Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a MA to join our team. The MA will be responsible for ensuring all patient care duties are completed in a safe, timely and efficient manner in accordance with standards of care, TJC, and University policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of related experience. Requires graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

o:

  • Record patients’ medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.


o:

  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.


o:

  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight and height.


o:

  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.


o:

  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.


o:

  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens and prepare them for testing.


o:

  • Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.


o:

  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians’ instructions to patients.


o:

  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.


o:

  • Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses.
