Job Summary:

Job Description: Provide training for students on the provisions of the Oklahoma Vehicle Code and other laws of Oklahoma relating to the operation of motor vehicles, acceptance of personal responsibility in traffic, appreciation of the causes, seriousness and consequences of traffic collisions, and to develop the knowledge, attitudes, habits, and skills necessary for the safe operation of motor vehicles. Responsible for participant learning in the classroom and the in vehicle training modules.

Essential Job Functions:

    Set up lesson by stating the objective and making the content meaningful. Obtain roster and have students sign in. Reinforce principles and content with the use of training aids. Schedule drive times. Communicate with the parents. Observe and coach in areas of responsibility. Have students initial the roster. Maximize a safe, positive learning environment. Secure all equipment at the end of day. Verify gates, garage doors, classroom doors and office doors (when necessary) are locked prior to leaving. Prepare vehicles for driving, clean and perform basic maintenance to include but not limited to, fueling vehicles, checking tire air pressure, Checking vehicle fluids, etc.. Completes all mandatory training. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Possess effective communication skills to understand and respond to job instructions as well as to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries.
  • Knowledge of grammatical structure, vocabulary for preparing, demonstrating, presenting material. Ability to communicate in clear, grammatically correct English.
  • Perform data recording/record keeping operations requiring logging, filing or posting single entry items either manually or by computer.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to: office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.

Minimum Qualifications:

Work Experience:
Experience as a driver educationinstructor for at least five (5) years in a public, private or parochialschool.

Certifications/Licenses:
Must have current driver’s license.

Education:

    Verification of a minimum of six (6) hours of Driver Education I and Driver Education II and a minimum of three (3) semester of General Education at an accredited college or university.A course equivalent to that described above offered by a nationally recognized commercial driver instructor course approved by the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.

    Verification showing you have been a driver education instructor for at least five (5) years immediately preceding application and have taught driver education for at least five (5) years in a public, private, or parochial school.Certification as a Commercial Driver Training Instructor by the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.
Preferred Qualifications:

A degree in Driver Education from an accredited college or university.

Working Conditions:

    Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends.Work will be performed in an office environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone, via email, and various communication platforms.Indoor and outdoor environments (in all weather conditions).
PhysicalRequirements:

    Duties requireextended periods of sitting, talking and listening.Dutiesrequire extensive use of computers, telephone and other office equipment.Requires possiblelifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weights more than 45 lbs., OSU-OklahomaCity requires this to be a two-person lift).Ability to walk long distances.Ability to move equipment.
