Provides janitorial service in the maintenance of building facilities. Primary responsibility is in the use of proper equipment/tools such as floor scrubbers, pressure washers/cleaners, vacuums, blowers and materials in the performance of janitorial functions. Performs moderately heavy manual work involving the moving of desks, files, medium size safes and pallets using a forklift when required. All work is performed under relatively close supervision.
Duties & Responsibilities
Scrubs, mops, waxes and polished floors; washes windows, woodwork; cleans all restrooms and fixturesCleans glass areas including inside and outside of windows making use of a boom-lift or scissor lift when requiredAssists in making minor repairs to buildings and equipmentChanges trash and garbage cansCleans tables and refrigerators in eating areasMops floors in “convenience” kitchen and cafeteriasMoves office and school furniture and equipment as directedCompletes college-issued certifications for floor scrubbers, pressure washers/cleaners, boom-lifts, scissor-lifts and other equipment critical to the performance of job duties within six (6) months of hire date

Completion of two (2) years of High School and one (1) month of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceKnowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment used in janitorial work and/or in the moving of desks, files, and safes Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform a variety of janitorial tasks in the care and limited maintenance of buildings and equipmentAbility to make minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipmentAbility to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers Ability to print and speak simple sentencesAbility to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructionsAbility to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variablesAbility to understand and follow simple oral and written instructionsAbility to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends
