Research Specialist II, Specialty Crop Team

 

The Specialty Crop Team at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture is seeking qualified applicants for a temporary Research Specialist position to work on applied research geared towards improving production practices and disease management in specialty crops relevant to Tennessee. This position will be considered temporary for one year and is contingent upon funding and performance.

 

Duties of the selected candidate may include:

  • Establish, coordinate, and maintain applied research plots and activities for specialty crops in greenhouse, field, disease/breeding nurseries, and in laboratory settings.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of field trial protocols to achieve research goals.
  • Perform various activities including seeding, transplanting, harvest, grading, etc. for all specialty crop applied research.
  • Independently collect, organize, and enter data from applied research trials in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Application of treatments accurately using standard plot research procedures. 
  • Purchasing of supplies associated with research and extension programs.
 



Qualifications
Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Plant Sciences, Plant Pathology or related field and two years of experience in plant pathology and agronomy is preferred.

 

Experience with basic microbiology and molecular techniques (e.g. microbial culturing and PCR), understanding of agricultural research management software (ARM), and knowledge of statistical procedures are highly desired.

 

The candidate must possess excellent written and oral English skills, be self-motivated, highly organized, and willing to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students to conduct greenhouse, field, and laboratory research.
