Savannah State University established in 1890, is the oldest public historically black college or university in Georgia and the oldest institution of higher learning in the city of Savannah. The university’s students select majors from four colleges — Business Administration, Education, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and Sciences and Technology. The Resident Director is responsible for creating a safe living environment for the students of SSU. The incumbent is also expected to implement policies and procedures within University guidelines for living in on-campus housing. This positions serves as a mean of ensuring that resident halls are ran smoothly on the campus of SSU.
Responsibilities Reporting directly to the Director of Housing, the incumbent in this position has the latitude to consider courses of action within the constraints of well-defined University policies and procedures or under the direction of the director. The position must have decisions approved concerning budgetary matters in the Residence Halls of workshops.
On a daily basis, the incumbent in this position must interact with Residential Services and Programs, and the other Residence Halls ensuring the health and welfare of hundreds of students.
Selecting, supervising, and training Resident AssistantsImplementing the University’s residential living policies and procedures.Assist in daily operations.Administrative duties as assigned.Oversee individual student development.Appropriately confront and handle discipline procedures for students.Assists in special projects as requested.Assist with conferences, hiring employees, etc. as requested.Oversee educational approach to student discipline.Coordinating and scheduling programs within the residence halls.
In all activities, the Resident Director for Student Affairs is expected to model and promote the values of the Division of Student Affairs: student-centered philosophy, integrity, interconnectedness, passion, quality, respect, civility, responsibility and the richness of diversity.
Bachelors degree in business; 2 years experience in student housing; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters Degree preferred. Experience in residence life, supervision, student development skills, and advanced skills in MS Office
