Job Description
The Office of Academic Affairs, University Recreation and Fitness (URecFit) has an opportunity for an Associate Director, Business and Programming, of URecFit in the SMC Campus Center. As a member of the department’s senior leadership team the incumbent will work with the director and other associate or senior assistant directors to establish strategic goals and objectives, implement strategies, oversee facility operations, supervise staff, assist in the overall fiscal management of the department, and evaluate programs and services to foster engagement and enhance well-being of the University community. Incumbent will provide leadership, professional development and supervision of team members in the areas of aquatics, sports, reservations, youth camps and events and departmental risk management. The position will report to the Director of the department.   *This position is “professional on call,” and may supervise campus recreation facilities and staff on designated evenings weekends and holidays.   Benefits Information:  UMB offers a generous benefits package that includes 22 vacation days, 14 floating and holidays, 15 sick days; comprehensive health insurance and retirement options; and tuition remission for employees and their dependents at any of the University System of Maryland schools.   In the Fall of 2021, UMB will require all faculty, staff, and students to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Exemptions for medical or religious reasons will be processed through Human Resources.     Essential Functions   Supervise, evaluate and provide administrative direction/guidance to professional staff members in the areas of Business & Client Relations, Fitness & Wellness, Staff Development & Internship, and to all student employees of the department. Ensure appropriate staffing levels as needed.   Provide collaborative direction in the development of services, business operations, programming, and long and short-term strategic planning.   Manage URecFit business operations which includes the oversight of business office, fee collections, & daily deposits, processing & reconciliation of payroll deductions, assisting with all aspects of C-1 & Student employment processes, maintaining business and enterprise compliance for the business & fiscal operations, and regularly business and fiscal decisions impacting the department. Management of program accesses processes for students and members.   Oversee all fitness, membership services, and client relations which includes development and execution of URecFit’s Strategic Membership and Business plans. Maximizes the social media presence, marketing strategies, and client engagement opportunities. Coordination of program and client assessments and assessment plans.   Lead and manage the department’s business and client services technology and user interfaces including the department’s CRM, Client Web Portal, User App, and onsite business technology platforms. Departmental lead on UMB financial platforms and services related to URecFit.   Provide monthly reports to director on key metrics and business indicators. Leads program assessment and data collection in relation to monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Assesses impact and effectiveness of various departmental strategic initiatives.   Research, develop, and execute corporate and philanthropy relationships that includes a sponsorship plan, development plan, and community engagement strategy.   Represent the department at various campus, division, and community functions, and serve on university committees as assigned.   Perform other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications
Education: Bachelors in Exercise Sciences, Recreation, Fitness Management, Kinesiology, Health Education, Management Sciences, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or closely related field.  Experience: Five (5) years of related experience.  Supervisory: Three (3) years of work direct management or supervision of others  Licensure/Certification: CPR and AED; First Aid; Pool Operator certifications required or willingness to obtain once hired. Project Management related certification preferred. Criminal background and fingerprinting is required.  Other: No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities   Knowledge of best practices in departmental field.   Ability to establish goals, structures, and processes necessary to implement a mission and strategic vision.   Leadership, coaching, and team building skills to strengthen and cultivate relationships.   Strategic and analytical thinking skills with an ability to solve problems and make decisions.   Ability to network and interact, as well as support effective partnerships with key groups and individuals.   Ability to prioritize ongoing and new projects, as well as conduct research and gather information.     Hiring Range: Low to mid $70K, commensurate with education and experience   UMB is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
