Position Summary

This position is based at the Page Campus and provides security at College facilities by patrolling and observing the activities of persons in and around buildings and grounds. This involves assessing problem situations and exercising tact and judgment in resolving problems. Evening, weekend and holiday hours may be required. Drug testing will be requested at the direction of the Executive Director of Facilities Management. This is a full-time, 12 month benefit eligible position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Assumes and assists in supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Chief of College Security.Is the primary reviewer of initial citation appeals related to parking regulations, submits response and coordinates further review with Chief of College Security.Issues keys and proximity cards to employees as approved.Responsible for the enforcement of security procedures and guidelines.Presents a uniformed presence to deter criminal activity by patrolling and observing college campus parking lot, and surrounding areas.Ensures student and staff accessibility to the College at the appropriate scheduled times by locking and unlocking buildings, classrooms and offices.Responds to reports of disturbances, safety hazards, criminal activity or irregularities on campus.Enforcement of parking regulations.Documents concise and accurate Incident Reports, Security Patrol Logs and other required written documentation.Work an On-Call status/rotation to respond to call outs such as After-hour alarm calls etc.Assists local law enforcement as required.Performs other duties such as light maintenance, grounds work, custodial, snow removal and setting up special events.Provides Motorist Assistance including jump-starts, and assisting vehicles stuck in snow and ice.Participate in educational programs and orientations as needed.Provides safety walk assistance to students and staff as requested.Provides direction assistance to students and visitors as needed.Operates and monitors computer controlled security and fire alarm systems.Performs security duties for non-college businesses (i.e. Flagstaff City Library and Fourth Street tenants, and contracted services).Assist Chief of College Security in training for faculty, staff and students.Assist with hiring of student workers.Trains and supervises student workers assigned to the security department.Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population of students and employees, state and local law enforcement agencies, and other College and University law enforcement. Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine if law enforcement involvement is required and/or the proper course of action. Must be able to make important decisions based on procedures, guidelines and knowledge without supervisor input. Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect for the rights of others. Requires keen observation and communication skills. Knowledge and skill with Microsoft office programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree and 2 years of security or certified law enforcement experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience enough to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and/or as approved by the Human Resources department. Possession of a valid Arizona's Driver’s License. Finalists will be required to have a criminal background check.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field along with 3 years of certified law enforcement. Experience working in an educational setting. Experience with access control, emergency alert, fire alarm systems, parking management and security systems.
