Boston University College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Physical Therapy & Athletic Training beginning in the fall of 2022. Appointments are for a nine-month academic year. We are seeking a colleague who will help us continue to build on the College’s tradition of excellence in rehabilitation sciences, physical therapy (PT), clinical practice, and scholarship.
The successful candidate will have the potential to lead a nationally and internationally visible research program in data- and/or technology-driven research for advancement of health outcomes. This may include health services research involving large datasets, health-focused applications of artificial intelligence and/or machine learning, or digital health applications. Within the department of Physical Therapy & Athletic Training, the candidate will join and be supported by a group of committed and active NIH-funded scientists with research programs in clinical rehabilitation research.
A successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate within and outside of Sargent College. Depending on the research area, opportunities to collaborate include, but are not limited to clinicians in the BU Physical Therapy Center (BUPTC) and Center for Neurorehabilitation (CNR), faculty from the School of Public Health, School of Medicine, Evans Center for Implementation and Improvement Sciences (CIIS), Center for Clinical and Translational Epidemiology and Comparative Effectiveness Research (TEC), Rafik B. Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science and Engineering, and the Mobile and Electronic Health Affinity Research Collaborative (ME-Health ARC). Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Boston University School of Public Health are part of a multi-institutional Center on Health Services Training and Research (CoHSTAR) and partners in the NIH funded Learning Health Systems Rehabilitation Research Network (LeaRRn), offering exciting collaborative opportunities to advance health services research in the physical therapy/rehabilitation domain. BUPTC collects outcomes using Intermountain Healthcare Rehabilitation Outcomes Measurement System (ROMS) as standard practice. BMC is the largest safety net hospital in New England providing accessible care to underserved and diverse patient populations in the Greater Boston area with a substantial research enterprise. BU Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences (CDS) is an exciting new initiative for individuals with expertise in clinically relevant applications of computational methodologies. BU Clinical and Translational Institute (BU CTSI) provides extensive training, funding, methodologic, and other support for faculty across BU.
The Department of Physical Therapy & Athletic Training includes faculty who are leaders in research and scholarship, clinical education, and professional development. Students receive clinical training through highly competitive academic programs including the DPT. The Department also supports advanced clinical residencies and fellowships at the BU Physical Therapy Center and the Center for Neurorehabilitation. The Department is part of Sargent College, which is a thriving research enterprise with nearly $18 Million in external funding. Research in Sargent College covers the full range of biological and behavioral research relating to human health, disease, and disorders.

- Doctoral degree (PhD) in a data-driven health research discipline
- Post-doctoral experience (preferred)
- Professional degree and current licensure in PT (preferred)

- A commitment to innovation in teaching
