The mission of the Facilities Management Department is to establish and maintain an environment conducive to learning, working, and living within the University of North Dakota community for its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Journeyman Electrician completes tasks as assigned by the Electrical Shop Supervisor for the University of North Dakota.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesRepair and install light fixtures, both inside and outside of the building.
Repair of wiring to a wide range of motors and pumps.
Repair and installation of motor controllers.
Repair of outside outlets and associated wiring.
Maintain and enhance electrical systems and components, including fuses, lights and wiring
Inspect, test, repair install and modify electrical components and systems.
Install electrical systems using proper materials and procedures.
Install conduit and other raceway systems.
Installation of all building wiring from building plans, blueprints, or wiring diagrams and lighting systems and controls.
Works with medium voltage equipment to include transformers, switches, and wire.
Perform all work in a manner that meets and follows all electrical codes as well as University design standards.
Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems and components to include but not limited to: Electrical switchgear, MCC’s, subpanels and safety disconnect switches
Assist with medium voltage preventative maintenance and repairs
Test electrical systems and components to ensure proper functioning
Prepare required paperwork,enter labor, and complete purchase request paperwork.
Complete red-line drawings for new installations.
Follow all safety rules and promote safe behaviors.
Requires the ability to interact and communicate with students, faculty, staff, and co-workers.
Ability to work in a diverse workforce.
Must be able to communicate effectively and follow directives.
Ability to comprehend and follow directives. Requires sound decision-making skills
Must be able to successfully complete a background check.
High school diploma or GED
1 year of experience as an electrician
Valid ND Journeyman Electricians license (must upload to application)
Valid Driver's license
Successful completion of criminal history records check

Preferred Qualifications2+ years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician
Familiar with UND Campus and Buildings
Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
$52, 500 annual/ non-exempt full time benefitted position
Work Schedule/Start DateMonday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. All Facilities Management positions are subject to callbacks seven day a week, 24 hours a day. Weekend work as required.
