JOB SUMMARY

These two positions will work in conjunction with the Director of Student-Athlete Success Program to coordinate all activities which fall under the Division of Athletics Student-Athlete Development program. These Director of the Student-Athlete Success Program (Student Services Program Assistant 2) positions are responsible for community outreach programs, which include specific programs such as “Husky Reach”, “Goal Line Project” and “Husky Star Kids.” These programs provide opportunities for UConn student-athletes into area schools on a regular basis to participate in activities, which reinforce important values such as teamwork, determination, self-motivation and respect. These positions will be the liaison for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), as well as its activities, which reflects the Division’s commitment to service programs and to enhancing student-athlete experiences and overall welfare. The positions responsibilities includes creating, planning, and implementing effective leadership, service, professional/career and personal development workshops, events and initiatives. These positions will also work with all sports programs as well as internal/external programs to the University of Connecticut to provide opportunities for personal, professional and service development for our student-athlete population.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinates all of the Division’s community service (outreach) programs.
  2. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Student-Athlete Success Program, creates and implements programs which focuses on personal, career and social growth for student-athlete population.
  3. Serves as a resource to individuals and groups on matters relating to the Student-Athlete Development Program, its activities, administrative policies, and procedures.
  4. Manages the Leadership Academy for our student-athlete population and makes minor changes or recommends major changes or enhancements to supervisor.
  5. Assists with the financial management of OSAD, including current and future grant commitments.
  6. Works closely with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) on initiatives to support the Division’s commitment to enhancing the overall experience and creating opportunities for our student-athletes.
  7. Collaborates and partners with Student-Athlete Success Program staff, National C club regarding ongoing programs to enhance the overall development of our student-athletes.
  8. Participates in the planning, writing, development and implementation of current and potential future grant proposals.
  9. Compiles data and provides various reports for internal and external partners.
  10. Manages all Husky Cup (team competition for community service) information, including allocating points, recording data and promoting events within athletics and across campus.
  11. Arranges transportation, room reservations, and food for all community outreach events.
  12. Liaison with organization that supports funding of Division’s outreach programs, including providing organizations with regular reports on outreach activities at various schools.
  13. Regularly promotes outreach activities by coordinating program stories and photos with Communications staff to appear on Division’s website and/or shared with local media.
  14. Adheres to all policies and procedures of the University of Connecticut, Conference offices and NCAA.
  15. Performs related duties as assigned by your supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of professional experience in student development or leadership development programming in a collegiate environment
  • Experience coordinating event activities and collaborating with various internal and external constituents.
  • Commitment to the holistic development of youth groups.
  • Outstanding organizational, communication and public relations skills.
  • Strong presentation skills; effective in a variety of settings (one-on-one, small group, large group).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess knowledge of basic computer systems such as Microsoft Office and Google docs.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience working with student-athletes with regard to career and leadership development at a collegiate level.
  • Experience in program development and program assessment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to thrive in a diverse, fast paced, student-athlete service-driven environment in a collegiate setting.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Grant writing experience.
  • Experience working with youth and facilitation.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
