Job Summary

Responsible for the scheduling, budgeting, contracting and execution of all aspects of productions and support of all main stage events and performances including guest performances, graduation ceremonies, and other public events; coordinate all technical requirements for performances and activities staged in the Pence Theater and in other district locations, oversee a stage production crew; and coordinate the operation and maintenance of theater technologies and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day to day operations of the Pence Center, including managing college events; meeting student and faculty needs; hiring and scheduling of staff, payroll and budget management; new productions, rentals, coordinating details for marketing and public relations, soliciting of new business; and developing community related performing arts programs such as musicals and concert series. Provide outreach development and partnership with community entities/members to expand use of the Pence Center.

  • Responsible for administrative functions, including revenue intake, budget expenditures and record keeping, data compilation, and report preparation regarding the success of cultural events participation and revenue generation

  • Develop an entertainment series for the Pence Center and support district needs when appropriate. Conduct discussions with external artists, groups and/or organizations in support of developing a community events schedule. Function independently but under defined guidelines. Work with marketing staff to develop advertising schedule and for the design and distribution of promotional materials such as brochures, programs, news releases, and posters to increase visibility and encourage attendance.

  • Oversee Box Office and ticketing staff, ensuring set hours for ticket sales and front of house coverage during events. Provide oversight of volunteers that assist in staffing events. Attend events to facilitate operations in cooperation with technical staff and respond to emergencies or problems and ensure all aspects of events are implemented and controlled according to plans.

  • Responsible for overseeing and assisting the technical specialist with theatrical lighting and sound system technologies at events; implementation of lighting, sound and set designs; management of props and costumes, and production operations. Design and implement all technical aspects for district-wide performances and events including the use of software and programming for lighting and sound boards. Order and maintain an appropriate inventory of theatrical supplies and coordinate equipment repair and replacement within budget.

  • Provide training, mentoring, leadership and oversight to interns, work study/work experience students, and production crew members in the areas of performance and theatrical lighting and design, sound technology, set design, management of props, costumes, theater properties, and production techniques to support performing arts and District events including theater/drama, music, dance, guest performances, and community partnership productions.

  • Work closely with Visual, Fine and Performing Arts faculty members, , adjunct instructors, and college employees to coordinate and schedule stage use to support on-stage academic coursework and labs, and college and community events. Collaborate with the Entertainment Industry Technology program to provide practical experience opportunities for E.I.T. students with regard to rigging, sound, and lighting technologies.

  • Manage Pence facility use requests with campus directors and various college departments, including facilities, campus police and others. Work collaboratively with the college’s 25Live team to include scheduling solutions coordinator, academic scheduling, technology support and administrative assistants. Prepare facility work order notices, semi-annual hazardous material inventories, safety incident reports and budget reports. Provide advise on technical / physical requirements and capabilities. Serve as an in-house liaison for incoming performances.

  • Supervise load-ins and load-outs of all guest artists. Serve as an in-house liaison for incoming performances.

  • Perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position to include client contract negotiations and compliance with applicable regulations. The capacity to manage effectively conflicting demands and schedules to the satisfaction of all concerned parties is required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of applicable experience.

SPECIAL POSITION CONDITIONS: Must be able to travel throughout district using own transportation. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays to ensure proper coverage of shifts and events.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Experience with complex venue management and hosting a variety of programs including music, theater, dance and other nontraditional performance activities and events.
  • Ability to participate in soliciting business, developing marketing and public relations campaigns, and developing relationships with external arts and community organizations
  • Ability to manage client contract negotiations, scheduling, and planning for production requirements
  • Ability to configure and operate theater-class digital sound systems and related equipment.
  • Ability to operate multimedia equipment (i.e. A/V equipment, PA systems, Mac & PC computers).
  • Ability to design and construct sets using handheld and power tools in a shop environment.
  • Understanding of the performing arts and the needs of various venues and performers.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment, props, costumes and ability to troubleshoot and resolve operating kinks in a performing arts center, solve problems quickly and economically, establish all this in a safe environment for crew and performers.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with staff, community partners, faculty, students and the public.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills and also take direction and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in accomplishing tasks.
  • Ability to form partnerships and working relationships with various college and community members and leaders.
  • Ability to analyze situations, develop solutions and make independent decisions based on established guidelines.

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Strength to build sets, handle and move set pieces and bulky or heavy equipment. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to climb stairs and ladders unassisted.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Job is performed in a variety of locations: office environment as well as in a classroom, a hardware shop, a performing arts theater, and various performance venues in a variety of locations and on different campuses. Some assignments may be for outdoor venues and involve exposure to the elements. Driving will be required. Occasional work in high locations (catwalks, on cherry-pickers or scissor lifts, etc.) will be required
