The Graduate Education Division at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications for a a Tenure- track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the School and College program with the appointment starting in Fall 2022.

The Position

The faculty of the College of Education at California State University Dominguez Hills invites applications from individuals for a Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor position in the Graduate Education Division of the College of Education. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of successful teaching, research, and professional counseling experience, in addition to a commitment to reflective practice, clinical training, and social justice and equity as a foundation for the preparation of educational counseling professionals. The ideal candidate would possess: professional experience with both School and College counseling populations, a record of successful teaching experience at the college level, a demonstrated ability to effectively partner with schools and colleges, an established record of scholarship, and a demonstrated ability of successful mentoring of students in research and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching a variety of graduate courses in the MS Counseling, School and College Counseling program,
  • Supervising students in counseling field experiences,
  • Providing program advisement to students,
  • Mentoring students in research and professional development,
  • Maintaining a research agenda related to issues in counseling and pK-16 education,
  • Collaborating with faculty to support program coordination, program evaluation, curriculum development, admissions, and recruitment,
  • Assuming college and university committee responsibilities, and
  • Participating in and expanding partnerships with area schools and colleges to foster excellent field experiences and job prospects for our candidates

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate (Ed.D., Ph.D., or Psy.D.) in counseling, psychology, education, or a closely related field of study from an accredited university by date of appointment,
  • Experience as professional counselor at either the School (pK-12) or College level with linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse students;
  • Experience teaching courses in counseling or psychology at the college level;
  • Evidence of a promising agenda of research in counseling or education as demonstrated by publication and presentation activity;
  • Evidence of applied knowledge in three or more of the following areas: counseling theory and practice; group dynamics; individual, group, crisis, and career counseling; consultation and collaboration; program development and evaluation; educational leadership; counselor supervision; and law and ethics, as demonstrated by clinical practice and/or teaching experience.
  • Evidence of a commitment to justice, diversity, anti-racism, and inclusion in counseling work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as both a credentialed public School Counselor in a pK-12 setting and professional experience as a College Counselor at either the community college or university setting;
  • Expertise in providing counseling services to pK-16 students under the possession of a clinical license or specialized certification;
  • An established record of peer-reviewed scholarly publications and presentations;

Employment Requirement – Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies from an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor of Philosophy).
