General Description:
This position provides photography and visual arts support to students, works closely with faculty, information technology and security. Handles technical support, user instruction, and related tasks as required. Responsible for aiding the daily operations and maintenance of the Department’s Darkroom and Digital Lab and Photography Studio Facilities.


Duties and Tasks:
  • Support students with photographic imaging and post production techniques.
  • Supervise students in the digital lab, chemistry lab and lighting studio and assist with user support in all lab facility capabilities including equipment care and safety.
  • Provide technical advice and training/demonstrations in the use of systems, software and equipment available in the assigned facilities and used to support the College’s photography curriculum.
  • Assist students individually or in small groups with use hardware and software in the digital lab, chemical lab and with studio lighting.
  • Respond to student questions and concerns including techniques taught in a variety of photography classes. This includes proofing their work, providing recommendations and when needed instruction.
  • Prepare the dark room film and print chemistry to ensure readiness for use.
  • Supervise and assist in proper following of procedures and safe handling of materials and chemicals by all darkroom users.
  • Assist with facilities inventory, supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain facility procedures for equipment checkout for both onsite and offsite use.
  • Assist with regular maintenance and upkeep of darkroom equipment, digital lab equipment and classroom technology. This includes regular workstation operating and software upgrades, and patching, routine monitor color profile calibration in the Digital lab and classrooms.
  • Perform advanced Epson printer physical and logical (software) maintenance.
  • Provide regular maintenance and cleaning of dark room spaces, as well as classroom areas within the lab. This includes cleaning darkroom sinks, trays, floors, wiping down monitors, etc. Keeping the main closet organized.
  • Contribute to the troubleshooting efforts of the information technology teams.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Adobe software (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro) and Capture One.
  • Stay current with technologies that relate to the operations of lab facilities to include workstation, scanners, printers, and a wide-range of digital and photography equipment. Suggest new technology and repair needs.
  • Provide support to faculty members and Campus Police to maintain a secure environment.

Special Assignments:

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications:

Required KSAs:

  • Advanced working knowledge of Adobe software (Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro) and Capture One.
  • Currency with technologies that relate to the operations of lab facilities to include workstation, scanners, printers, and a wide-range of digital and photography equipment. Suggest new technology and repair needs.
  • Ability to assist students, faculty, and staff with analog and digital darkroom technologies.
  • Working knowledge of photographic methods and techniques.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associates Degree in related Photography or related discipline OR combination of education, training and experience. Experience as an analog and digital darkroom technician. Experience in photographic methods and techniques.
