General Summary

The Department of Finance, Insurance & Law at Illinois State University invites applications for tenure-track appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor of Risk Management and Insurance, starting on August 15, 2022. A Ph.D. in Risk Management and Insurance or related discipline is required by the time the appointment starts, preferably from an AACSB-accredited institution. ABDs will be considered if close to completion. The primary teaching need is at the undergraduate level, but additional opportunities are available in the MBA program. The department emphasizes balanced excellence in innovative instruction and applied, empirical research. The typical teaching load is 9 credit hours per semester, with a median class size of 29. Candidates must demonstrate potential for high quality teaching and research. Applicants at the associate professor level should have evidence of teaching excellence and a record of publications in high quality academic journals. Salary is based on rank and experience.

Additional Information

Illinois State University is one of only 189 schools that are AACSB accredited in both business and accounting. The program in Risk Management and Insurance was ranked by A.M. Best as one of the top four undergraduate risk management and insurance programs in the United States. It also was recently designated as a Global Center of Insurance Education by the International Insurance Society.

The Department of Finance, Insurance and Law has 14 tenured and tenure-track faculty members. College and Departmental research support include databases such as WRDS (including Compustat and CRSP), S&P Global Market Intelligence (SNL), ExecuComp, and Morningstar, as well as opportunities for course releases, competitive grants and awards. The Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management provides additional support to RMI faculty in the form of research and faculty development grants, specialized software, industry financial data, graduate assistants, membership dues, travel expenses, as well as industry connections and professional development opportunities.

Required Qualifications

1. Ph.D. in Risk Management and Insurance or related discipline is required by the time the appointment starts, preferably from an AACSB-accredited institution. ABDs will be considered if close to completion.
2. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
