Position Highlights:

The University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law is seeking applicants for an Assistant Director of Diversity Initiatives to help plan and implement outreach and diversity recruitment initiatives within the College in order to produce a deep and diverse pool of applicants. Providing access to all qualified candidates is an essential value of the University of Arizona College of Law.

This position will help create a robust recruitment program, providing a pipeline and pathway to attract diverse and traditionally underrepresented students. This position requires nation-wide travel and weekend work.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Assistant Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid to create and implement a diversity recruitment plan.
  • Provide outreach efforts to prospective students and increase application rates from students of diverse backgrounds. Includes extensive travel.
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of the Advanced JD Program for Non-US Lawyers.
  • Collaborate with key organizations across the UA, including the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the law school.
  • Connect the law school to outside professionals and organizations that focus on diversity inclusion and awareness.
  • Partner with Tucson community leaders to create programming and events with local high school students.
  • Create and maintain pathways for prospective/current students, alumni, and college staff to participate in the diversity efforts of the College.
  • Plan and implement programs and projects that strategically engage students, alumni, employers, and the bench and bar.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of JD admissions process, student recruitment, JD educational process, and legal market.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with students, colleagues, alumni, other constituents and the public.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity, and demonstrated effectiveness relating to students from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrably strong writing, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve institutional goals.
  • High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.
  • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during peak times and during evening and weekend events as well as the ability to travel.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including word-processing, database maintenance, and subsequent data analysis. Minimum of intermediate experience with Word, Excel and MS Outlook required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is typically required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • JD from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Experience working directly with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Student services experience, and particularly, experience in the recruitment and provision of services to international students.
