Department Description:Transportation & Parking (http://www.move.unc.edu/) is an essential service at UNC Chapel Hill and is responsible for coordinating traffic, parking, and transportation to meet the diverse access needs of an academic and health care campus population consisting of 30,000 students, 19,000 employees, and up to 1 million patients and visitors annually. Transportation and Parking strives to provide high-level service to students, employees, and visitors who work, live, and visit the University and UNC Health Care System. Transportation and Parking partners with stakeholders and customers to manage this key University infrastructure system effectively and efficiently balancing limited resources and the diverse access needs of the campus community.
The department manages 10 parking decks and 160 surface parking areas with approximately 23,000 parking spaces providing employee, student, patient/visitor, and event access to campus. The department has 96 permanent employees, approximately 45 temporary employees, and an operating budget of approximately $31 million. The University and UNC HealthCare System rely on a multi-modal transportation system, utilizing local and regional transportation to provide access to the campus and hospitals. UNC partners with local and regional transit agencies to provide fare-free-at-boarding transportation locally and subsidized regional transit opportunities for employees and students. Transportation and Parking plans, manages, and implements traffic, transit, and parking services daily and during major campus events. Transportation provides essential input for the campus Master Plan and Development Plan initiatives to ensure development and operation of key transportation infrastructure services to support institutional missions.

Position Description:This recruitment is for three (3) Administrative Support Specialist positions. By applying you will be considered for all three (3) positions.
This Parking Control Officer position has many functions including monitoring parking facilities on the UNC Chapel Hill campus, citing and impounding illegally parked vehicles, responding to motorist assistance calls, such as jumpstarts and lockouts, collecting parking data; which may include space counts, field conditions, etc., routing traffic (directing traffic in the street, or placing directional signage, etc.), providing escorts and providing general campus and regulatory information to the public. This position is highly customer service driven, which requires critical thinking, prioritizing and problem-solving skills. It also requires proficiency in utilizing parking technology (handheld computers, gates, lockout tools, etc.) and incident command practices
(ICS). Successful candidates will be able to complete associated paperwork at a minimum of 94% error free rate within specified time frames which will include citations, impound reports, motorist assistance forms, vehicle equipment forms, motor fleet logs, “special use” logs, etc. Safety and adherence to policy and procedure is also paramount to success within the position. Employees are required to operate university Motor Fleet vehicles in order to perform the necessary duties of their job; such as motorist assistance, parking citations, monitoring UNC Chapel Hill parking lots, etc.
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Availability to work overtime and weekends due to high volume of all types of special events on campus is required. Employees are required to operate a University Motor Fleet vehicle in order to perform the necessary duties of their job; such as motorist assistance, parking citations, monitoring UNC Chapel Hill parking lots, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:Prefer 2 years of demonstrated direct customer service experience and proficient communication skills. Background in parking control, to include writing citations, directing traffic, collecting money for special events in the middle of traffic, collecting revenue at public parking decks, valet parking, screening parking lots, placing directional equipment such as for special events, meter collection, license plate recognition software experience, and traffic direction is strongly preferred. Customer service skills, to include answering telephones, greeting customers, problem-solving with customers, providing directions to the patrons/guests, cashiering, sales, receptionist type duties, etc. Familiarity with the UNC Chapel Hill campus is also strongly preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications:Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Special Physical and Mental Requirements:Must be able to tolerate inclement weather and lift/move equipment up to 45 pounds with or without an accommodation.
