Position Summary:The Health Sciences Library (HSL) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a collaborative, proactive, enthusiastic, and service-oriented candidate for the position of Health Sciences Librarian & Liaison to School of Public Health. This Librarian will be the primary point of contact for HSL support to UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health (Gillings). The School was rated the number one best public school of public health (number two overall) in the latest rankings by U.S. News & World Report (2021 Best Public Health Schools).
The successful candidate will partner with HSL staff and Gillings faculty, staff, and administration to support research, extend curriculum-integrated instruction, and further global engagement priorities by supporting research and teaching activities on campus and at UNC’s global sites. Research engagement may include collaborating with faculty on systematic reviews, supporting data science efforts, and contributing to research metrics and visualization projects with other HSL staff, including projects to assess research impact and collaboration networks of Gillings faculty.
The Librarian works in client settings and in the library, and is part of a team of librarians, support staff, and library partners working to achieve the library’s mission to manage information and knowledge to advance health and health care.
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library or information science or a related advanced degree.
Qualifications and Experience:REQUIRED
- ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library or information science or a related advanced degree.
- Minimum one year relevant experience in library, health-related, or research settings.
- Experience partnering on research efforts in academic settings.
- Experience conducting expert level literature searching in health, physical or natural sciences, and/or education related subject areas.
- Experience teaching in innovative and collaborative ways using emerging technologies and evidence-based instructional methods.
- Evidence of project, priority, and time management skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work both collaboratively on teams and independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility; awareness and understanding of diverse thought, cultures, race, religion, gender, and other differences.
PREFERRED
- Evidence of participation in research teams (e.g., co-authoring or co-presenting research findings; conducting systematic reviews; developing practice guidelines or consensus statements; synthesizing evidence; partnering on grant proposals; or cultivating partnerships for library integration within the research enterprise).
- Demonstrated knowledge of public health resources, including bibliographic databases, grey literature, and publicly available data sets.
- Knowledge of systematic reviews including standards for conducting searches, reviewing literature, developing documentation, and tools to support the research team (e.g., Covidence, reference mangers, machine learning or other automation techniques).
- Knowledge of professional education competency requirements and scholarly communication practices in public health.
- Experience with curricular redesign, developing curriculum-integrated instruction, and creating asynchronous content to engage participants.
- Awareness of accreditation process for Public Health and other health affairs schools.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers.
