Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Department of Biological and Forensic Sciences (DOBFS) offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Forensic Sciences. The department provides a high-quality and excellent undergraduate instruction in Biology and a solid foundation for upper division work and gives students opportunity to broaden her/his knowledge before deciding on a specific major or profession.

Under the administration of DOBFS, the Plant-Insect Interaction Research Laboratory has been established as a platform to conduct student-centered research to investigate the impact of environmental stress on plant-insect interaction. The research has been funded by FSU, USDA, and NSF over the past 15 years and served as a platform to for student training, faculty enhancement, and national and international collaboration. The mission of the Laboratory is to make meaningful scientific discoveries, engage FSU students in research and scientific communication, promote student success, and facilitate social mobility through research and education one student a time.

Primary Purpose of the Position:
This is a one (1) year time-limited position with the possibility to renew for two (2) additional years dependent upon funding availability and performance. Funding is supported by NSF including annual salary and fringe benefits. NSF funded FSU with a project entitled “Excellence in Research: Phytohormones and Heat-Induced Loss of Wheat Resistance to Hessian Fly (Award Number (FAIN): 2100425). The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research and work with undergraduate students in the lab, which will make meaningful scientific discoveries, promote student success, and enhance the research capacity of FSU.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be supervised by the PI, Dr. Lieceng Zhu. She/he will conduct
the research, train undergraduate students, and support the project via the following activities:

(1) Conduct research and scholarly activities to disclose the role of phytohormones in the heat induced loss of wheat resistance to Hessian fly infestation.
(2) Train and work with undergraduate students in research.
(3) Assist the PI in achieving the broader impacts of the project.
(4) Assisting the PI in teaching classes and/or labs.
(5) Manage day-to-day lab activities and maintain instruments in the lab.
(6) Execute other related activities assigned by the PI.

Hold a Ph.D. degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Plant Science, Entomology, or other related disciplines at the time of employment. The successful candidate must have a strong research background in plant molecular biology, with interest and demonstrated experiences in RNA and gene regulation. Experiences in Plant-parasite Interaction, Real-time qPCR analysis, Bioinformatics, Virus-induced gene silence, and the ability of implementing innovative approaches are highly desirable. The candidate should possess a good level of communication skills and is able to work with undergraduate students at Fayetteville State University.
