The Department of Medicine – Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research Labs (CVP) is looking for a well-qualified candidate for a position of Instructor. The person on this position will be  focused on finding molecular mechanisms that lead to the development of pulmonary hypertension and finding new therapeutic targets for pulmonary hypertension. Specifically the research is focused on the role of exosome (EVs)/small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) in pulmonary hypertension.  EVs and sEVs  are essential mediators of cell-to-cell communication. These vesicles can act as positive or negative modulators of cardiovascular diseases depending on the type and state of the cells from which they can originate. The major approaches that will be used in the work are to characterize the lung fibroblast generated sEVs and test their efficacy on immune cells by employing various basic and advance research tools and techniques. Addition to sEVs study, the candidate will be analyzing big dataset employing various bioinformatics tool. It is essential that the candidate has prior experience with analyzing the RNAseq data and can document it with publications.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $65,000- $68,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

    Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

•     Experience with PCR-based techniques such as standard PCR, multiplex PCR, competitive-PCR, real-time qPCR and array PCR

•     Gene cloning, DNA Sequencing

•     Experience with ELISA, Western blotting, Protein array.

•     Animal cell culture experience

•     Experience with isolation of stem cell by FACS and MACS

•     Experience with immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy

•     Small animal handling for breeding and genotyping

•     Experience with statistical software like Prism, sigmastat, SPSS

•     Knowledge of programming languages like Python, R, PHP.

•     Knowledge of standard bioinformatics tools for sequence analysis

•     Experience with databases like Genbank, ENSEMBLE etc.
