Read CU Anschutz Quick Facts here.A fully funded Professional Research Assistant position is available in cell biology and systems biology research in the laboratory of Dr. Edward Lau in the Department of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (https://www.laulab.net). Research in the Lau lab uses genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics approaches to understand basic cellular processes in human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models. We are looking for a motivated professional research staff who will work with our research team to execute cell biology experiments aimed at understanding the role of intercellular communication and crosstalk during cellular development and senescence. Currently funded projects include to develop and apply human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) and systems biology techniques to characterize secreted protein factors and extracellular vesicles in disease models in vitro.The primary professional responsibilities of the Professional Research Assistant will be to establish and maintain mammalian tissue culture models, procure biological specimens for high-throughput molecular analysis, and perform data entry and processing tasks. In addition, the Professional Research Assistant is expected to help in the preparation and maintenance of experimental reagents, materials, equipment, laboratory supplies, tools, and consumable items; keeping inventories; and helping to create a clean and sanitary working environment.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Culture, passage, and maintain cell or tissue samples of animal or human origins on a daily basis.
- Prepare reagents and other experimental materials.
- Perform cellular biology and biochemistry experiments, including cell culture, immunostaining, immunoblots, PCR, protein analysis, and other experiments.
- Follow, document, and optimize experimental protocols and standard operating procedures, record daily tasks, observations, and data.
- Document detailed research notes on paper and/or computer.
- Perform data analysis on computer.
- Ordering and logging of supplies and equipment.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and working environment.
- Conduct study assessment as required per the study protocol.
- Provide assistance to research staff, investigators and collaborators.
- Assist in developing and submitting accurate IRB applications, MTA/DUA, and required documents to support the conduct of research.
- Provide technical training on experimental protocols to other research staff, investigators, or collaborators as needed, as assigned by the supervisor.
- Any other tasks, as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related fields preferred
- At least 1 year of hands-on research experience in a research laboratory
- Experience in mammalian tissue culture and aseptic techniques
- Experience with statistical analysis
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Attention to detail and meticulous record keeping
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced research environment, with complex laboratory equipment, chemical solutions, and biological materials
- Must be able and willing to handle, carry, and/or lift objects in the research settings, up to 10 kg in weight.
- Must be able and willing to work in a standard research environment that may contain fumes, chemicals, liquid nitrogen, sharp objects, hazardous materials, tissue, and body fluids.
- Must be able and willing to stand or sit for prolonged periods during work hours, frequently move (e.g., walk, bend, stoop and other physical motions), as well as executing repetitive motions.
