Department Summary:

University Centers and Events (UCE) encompasses the University Union, Gateway Center and Coliseum. University Centers and Events (UCE), provides quality programs, services, and facilities that enhance the educational experience and create a community for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. We assist students to become good citizens of a global community, prepared to function in a diverse world.

The University Union features 330,000 sqft filled with campus services, dining options, meeting and event spaces, and programming, arts, and activities.

Design Works employs a student staff of award-winning designers. Designers are available for brochures, logos, flyers, scans, and basic setups. Designers meet with customers throughout the design process to ensure customer satisfaction.

Position Overview:

To assist in the coordination of the marketing function (including advertising and promotional materials) for the Union and some areas of operation; responsible for overseeing operations in Design Works; to assist in overseeing quality control standards for all marketing materials; must exercise fiscal responsibility and work to assist Associate Director to develop budgets for Design Works.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and two years of experience in communications, marketing, advertising, or public relations; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Thorough understanding of market segmentation, principles of marketing, integrated marketing communications principles and branding.
• Proficiency in MS Office and requisite publishing, graphic design and media tools.
• Ability to think creatively, organize tasks, work independently and meet deadlines.
• Considerable knowledge of Associated Press style.
• Ability to visually inspect products in multiple formats and assess and improve.
• Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.
• Proficiency in MS Office and requisite publishing and graphic design software.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite; proficiency with Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with print process including but not limited to: setting up files, paper stock, and print production. Design Works also features a pop-up shop with buttons, greeting cards, and more.

o:

Research, develop, and implement marketing campaigns and community outreach opportunities for Design Works, assessing their effectiveness in order to determine success and future direction.

o:

Familiarity with graphic design trends, techniques, and best practices to help support and mentor design team.

o:

Work the Union Marketing team on developing new creative content to support UCE programs and services.

o:

Manage the day-to-day needs of the Design Works shop including but not limited to: customer service, inventory management, and scheduling.

o:

Demonstrate ability to recruit, hire, and train workforce as needed for continuous operational success at Design Works.

o:

Able to assist directly with design requests to support UCE directly and other campus partners including but not limited to: signage, flyers, and other publication materials.

o:

Evaluate shop services and retail items to identify opportunities for new revenue streams.

o:

Assist the Associate Director with long term retail strategy to ensure smooth and continuous operation in line with strategic goals and fiscal responsibility.

o:

Supervise staff and create schedules in advance to align with shop hours in order to cover required areas and stay within provided budgets.

o:

Demonstrates ability to address performance issues with student employees as they occur, promptly and professionally, within UNT and departmental guidelines.
