Job Description

Position Summary

Northern Arizona University is seeking a seasoned Marketing Project Manager at our Flagstaff campus location. Working as part of a highly collaborative marketing team, this role will provide project management services to university clients and the marketing department in support of university strategic goals and client objectives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Essential functions

  • Assists in managing the scope, timeline, and budget of marketing projects to ensure timely delivery.
  • Coordinates with creative, digital, and client teams to ensure timely delivery that meets university quality and brand standards while achieving client objectives.
  • Supports department- or client-level portfolio health monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Helps to manage marketing-related projects.
  • Collaborates with marketing colleagues, subject matter experts, and key stakeholders to develop project plan, timeline, risk management, and other key elements for both routine and non-routine projects.
  • Gathers and analyzes project requirements related to university project budget and timeline to be used for recommendations.
  • Follows standard project management methodologies to support marketing-related project management.
  • Ensures that projects are completed to specification, within an established time frame and budget.
  • Conducts risk analyses and monitors the progress of plans against project milestones and budgets.
  • Manages and updates project data to ensure access to accurate and timely information.
  • Helps to monitor the health of assigned department- or/and client-level portfolios.
  • Contributes to unit- or department-level process or/and project-related system troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Produces reports and communications that interpret information for key stakeholders.
  • Coordinates and enforces systems, policies, and procedures.
  • May be responsible for monitoring a project budget and documenting project expenses.
  • May be assigned other duties necessary for the effective functioning of the department.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree in related field, AND
  • Two to four years of relevant experience (combination of professional marketing and project management experience), OR
  • A combination of related education, experience, and training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Coursework in project management.
  • PMP certification or other PM certification.
  • Two+ years of experience managing marketing-specific projects.
  • Experience working within a large marketing department or marketing agency.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Intermediate knowledge of routine marketing project management processes, and concepts, including relevant media applications and university regulations.
  • Knowledge of marketing concepts and applications.
  • Knowledge of marketing project management best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Project and time management skills.
  • Strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, meeting facilitation skills.
  • Workflow process mapping and optimization skills.
  • Collaboration/negotiation/conflict management skills.
  • Project management tools (Workfront, Trello, etc.) and techniques.
  • Skill in preparing reports and summaries.
  • Able to monitor a project budget and document project expenses.
  • Balances competing priorities.
  • Demonstrates problem solving, organizational, and analytical capabilities.
  • Analyzes non-routine situations and anticipates issues.
  • Maintains effective working relationships.
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing.
  • Promotes a diverse, inclusive environment.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check.

Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

Salary

The budgeted salary amount is $54,779 - $58,779.

**The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.


FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.


Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU.

Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
