Your opportunity:

University of Toronto Entrepreneurship (UTE) and the U of T community have created more than 500 companies, securing more than $1.5 billion in investment over the past decade. UTE supports and champions the activities of 10+ campus-linked accelerators and entrepreneurial initiatives across the tri-campus and manages the ONRamp – 16,000 square feet of co-working and event space in the Banting Institute.

The Program Manager, Black Founders Network is responsible for developing, launching and delivering the Black Founders Network (BFN), an initiative to support Black entrepreneurs across U of T’s tri-campus. The Program Manager works in collaboration with various internal stakeholders and the U of T’s diverse accelerators and incubators that serve students and faculty entrepreneurs from all disciplines and levels of experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing overall plan, program/project design and strategy for the BFN
  • Developing key components of projects that support collaboration and partnership on behalf of BFN
  • Liaising with management and leaders across University divisions to determine goals and priorities
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance in the public, private and non-profit sectors and with internal stakeholder relations across the UofT’s tri-campus including various accelerators and incubators
  • Assessing and determining benchmarks and metrics und using data to make decisions and ensure continuous improvement to reach BFN goals
  • Keeping well-informed on funding opportunities and resources, application policies/procedures and key deadlines in efforts to support success of Black entrepreneurs
  • Acting as an authorized spokesperson on behalf of BFN to members of the media and at public facing events
  • Developing and implementing marketing plans to promote programs, events and/or initiatives that support strategic objectives of the BFN and its goals

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, Entrepreneurship or relevant field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum six (6) years relevant experience managing complex, significant projects or programs; experience in the creation, development, launch and execution of program/project strategies, working with stakeholders; working with the entrepreneurial/venture building community;
  • Demonstrated experience in all aspects of project development and execution
  • Experience developing creative community engagement strategies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of issues facing Black, Indigenous, and people of colour and other racialized communities in the sphere of entrepreneurship
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for the innovation and start-up ecosystem
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy; including the ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders in a manner which facilitates collaboration and consensus building, to identify and build on areas of common interest, and to articulate a compelling case for the UTE Black Founders Network
  • Proven ability to engage in stakeholder relations both internally and externally and with various levels including students, leaders, executives and to work effectively in a large, complex environment
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, including exceptional presentation and writing skills; ability to prepare presentations, reports and correspondence with minimal review
  • Demonstrated experience with planning, leading and executing multiple events with a variety of stakeholders
  • Creative and innovative thinker, able to leverage the power of technology to communicate a variety of messages to internal and external audiences, especially in an educational and entrepreneurial environment

  • Lived experience and/or connection to Black and Racialized communities
  • Previous entrepreneurial experience as a founder
  • Demonstrated success with building / launching a venture or program

Schedule: Full-Time Some flexible hours may be required to support night and weekend events. Occasional overtime as required.
Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 15 -- $84,316 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $107,826. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
