The Department of Human Geography, the Department of Political Science, and the Department of Global Development Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough consist of award-winning faculty who combine active and productive research programs with teaching innovation and excellence. Your opportunity:

We are recruiting for an Undergraduate Assistant to provide administrative support services for programs and courses in Human Geography, Political Sciences, and the Department of Global Development Studies. You will serve as an essential resource to faculty and students on the hiring process of Teacher Assistants, Course Instructors, Sessional Lecturers, and Invigilators. Your professionalism and efficiency will contribute to the pursuit of excellence in faculty teaching and student learning in the Department of Human Geography, the Department of Political Science, and the Department of Global Development Studies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the recruitment of exam invigilators, teaching assistants, course instructors, sessional lecturers and/or stipend instructors
  • Proofing and posting adverts to recruit applicants
  • Verifying that provisions of applicable collective agreements and/or policies are applied appropriately.
  • Preparing draft employment letters using templates
  • Collecting supporting documentation required for payroll and/or HRIS processing
  • Collating and organizing data for various reports

Essential Qualifications:

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in Business Administration or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum two years related administrative experience in an academic environment, supporting faculty and students
  • Demonstrated experience interpretingpolicies, procedures, and collective agreements
  • Must be proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook and common Internet browser (Chrome, Firefox, IE)
  • Must have an acute aptitude for numbers and ability to create and maintain extensive spreadsheets containing a multitude of data (i.e. courses offered, enrolment numbers, costs, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with attention to details
  • Well developed interpersonal skills, demonstrated tact and professionalism when dealing with faculty, students, administrative staff and the public
  • Demonstrated initiative and be able to work effectively and efficiently, whether independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to work under time constraints and workload pressures and manage conflicting priorities and deadlines with regular interruption
  • Applicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learningand working environment


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experience with ROSI EXPRESS; ROSI/ACORN; Degree Explore; Intranet; TA Job Posting Application Systems; Career & Co-curricular Learning Network; Timetable Scheduler; and Online Calendar would be strong assets
  • Experience interpreting CUPE 3902 Unit 1 and 3 collective agreements would be a strong asset
