Job Details

General Purpose

The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for providing security and safety for the entire campus, including all structures for Presentation College and Presentation Convent.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the overall security of all buildings of the College.
  • Opening and locking of buildings and performing security rounds inside and outside of buildings to provide safe and secure surroundings.
  • Monitoring pipes, pumps and boilers to avoid problems, and ensure all are working properly and safely. Understanding the different equipment of all buildings (e.g. fire panel, phone system, water control, etc.)
  • Monitoring the parking areas of the campus to ensure parking guidelines are followed as well as ticketing violators of those guidelines.
  • Being attentive to functions on campus, e.g. College Mass, sporting events, conferences, etc.
  • Following up on any suspicious person or event on campus.
  • Investigating any complaints or concerns related to safety/security.  Completing a written report detailing the incidents as well as reporting said incident to law enforcement as appropriate (e.g. life threatening situations, damage to property, threats to individuals, injuries needing medical attention, suspicious persons or vehicles).
  • Knowing the appropriate personnel to contact should there be safety/security issues.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of all policies and procedures relating to the College and Convent.
  • Understanding and being part of the implementation of crisis and security plans for each building on campus.
  • Familiarizing him/herself with the general operations of all buildings and ways in which safety/security could be breached.
  • Maintaining positive working relationships members of the campus community.
  • Maintaining positive working relationships with Community Advisors and Housing Coordinator.
  • Sharing concerns and ideas to promote a sense of teamwork with staff.
  • Participating in educational offerings for personal and professional development.
  • Wearing a proper attire for the job.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Training

High School diploma or GED. Similar experiences in a related field. 

Core Competencies

Must be able to

  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Work independently as well as within a group environment.
  • Physically able to walk and stand for potentially long periods.
  • Bend, crouch and lift objects as needed.
  • Work in an outdoor environment with the potential of working in inclement weather.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient with computers and computer software.

Working Conditions

  • Variable temperature working environment. 
  • Moderate to little amount of noise in the work environment. 
  • Friendly, teamwork type of work environment.   
  • Normal amount of overtime and extended work hours required.
