Job Description:

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports To: Head of Reference & Access Services Librarian
Supervises: Work/Study Students (typically 15-18)

Summary of Position:
This position supervises the library's Public Service Work/Study students and other student workers who are responsible for the day to day circulation and shelving of physical library materials (books, periodicals, CDs, videos, etc.), including reserves; this position is the chief contact for course reserves; patron billing; stack maintenance; and collection shift planning.

Essential Job Functions:
  • 50% Supervise circulation student employees, including hiring and training, preparing work schedules and assignments, and revising and developing training materials. Checks student work as needed.
  • 20% Supervise and perform all circulation activities including fines and billing, holds, renewals, searches for missing books, etc. using TIND ILS. Investigate and resolve or escalate circulation problems and complaints as necessary.
  • 15% Supervise the Library's course reserves, including creation of catalog records, in close coordination with faculty to ensure timely processing of materials.
  • 15% Maintain the stacks, including planning and supervising stack shifting.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Creates lists in TIND (integrated library system) to identify appropriate patron groups and item types needing maintenance.
  • Problem solves TIND loan rule issues.
  • Handle money for fines and regularly balances library cash drawer.
  • Compile statistics and assist in special projects.
  • Perform other duties as needed and assigned.



Requirements:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree, Library Support Staff Certification, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision including hiring, scheduling, or training.
  • Ability to perform a variety of technical and computerized work with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure, coordinating multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and meet firm deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to follow and give clear instructions, and to communicate effectively with users and supervised students.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Two years of increasingly responsible library experience, preferably in an academic library.
  • Experience with integrated library systems.
  • Knowledge of library hardware and software as well as familiarity with computers, printers, photocopiers and audio-visual equipment.

Physical Demands:
  • Individuals may need to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate library materials required.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing effectively.
  • Ability to work extensive hours at the computer screen.
  • Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the work day.
  • Ability to do repetitive tasks with speed and accuracy.
  • Employee may need to carry, push, pull, or lift up to 30 pounds. Proper lifting techniques required.
  • Push and pull fully loaded (50-100 pounds) book trucks.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, anon-exempt position with an FTE of 1.0. Hourly rate is $21.00 per hour, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, 10 days of vacation, 12 sick days and 17 paid holidays (subject to annual review).
