The University of Denver Libraries, comprised of the Main Library at the Anderson Academic Commons, a remote storage facility called the Hampden Center, and the Bonfils Stanton Music Library in the Newman Center, is a highly collaborative organization that serves a diverse population, ranging from our students, staff, and faculty to public and other academic patrons from the surrounding region. General Summary

Reporting to the Access Services Librarian, this position is responsible for the management of the daily workflow in the Access Services Department, and the hiring/training/supervising of five Unit Supervisors that oversee the following functions: Circulation, Interlibrary Loan/Lending, Reserves, Stacks Maintenance, and Night/Evening Services. As part of the essential duties of the job this position delegates work, assists with technology issues related to the department, and recommends policy changes; oversees customer service environment, ensuring coverage of the Service Desk, and addressing patron concerns. Responsible for fulfillment functions and patron database within the library management system (LMS). Schedules all Access Services Department staff for the Service Desk and produces training materials. This position will work a Sunday-Thursday schedule. Hours are flexible and may be adjusted with approval of the Access Services Librarian, but will generally follow a 10 am to 6 pm schedule.

Essential Functions

SUPERVISION: Supervises the Unit Supervisors in the Access Department. Hires, trains, and evaluates appropriate department members; delegates work, provides coaching for performance improvement; oversees technology issues related to that department; recommends policy changes. 35%

ACCESS DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT: This position will act as a manager within the Access Services Department, overseeing and coordinating day-to-day operations with the Access Services Librarian. Will coordinate student hourly staffing and budgets with appropriate Access Services Unit supervisors. Responsible for enforcement of established policies and procedures. Will coordinate with the Access Services Librarian and appropriate stakeholders to recommend and implement changes to policies and procedures. This position will participate in emergency planning and business continuity planning at both the department and library levels. 35%

Required Qualifications

  • 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and direct the workflow of staff and train staff.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated management experience and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to analyze and organize work and set priorities.
  • Must be detail-oriented, with an extremely high accuracy rate in all work done and demonstrate a creative, service-oriented approach to problem solving.

Work Schedule
This position will work a Sunday-Thursday schedule. Hours are flexible and may be adjusted with approval of the Access Services Librarian, but will generally follow a 10 am to 6 pm schedule.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 8.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $48,000 - $53,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
