Erikson Institute seeks an experienced Academic Advisor to help re-design, build, and manage a holistic academic advising model for graduate students. Under the supervision of the Director of Advising, the Academic Advisor is responsible for overseeing a range of advising services to help foster student success, retention, and progress toward graduation. The Academic Advisor will provide accurate, current information about curriculum and academic programs, assist with program and career planning, provide information on institutional policies and procedures, track student progress toward degree completion, and refer students to available campus resources.

This is a full-time position located in downtown Chicago. Some evening and weekend hours required.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provides academic program-specific advisement to graduate students regarding program requirements and academic progress
  • Assists students with course selection and sequencing
  • Communicates degree requirements and academic policies to students
  • Advises students via phone, e-mail, Zoom, and scheduled in-person appointments
  • Performs assigned administrative duties focused on supporting advising, recruitment, and retention efforts
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data related to the academic advising of students who are at-risk of academic probation status and/or dismissal
  • Collaborates with enrollment management and faculty advisors to determine satisfactory progress toward degree completion
  • Leads initiatives to implement and improve upon consistent advising best practices and develops policy to help guide system of advising
  • Keeps information current on website, in student handbooks, and on forms and other    student materials
  • Maintains and manages student academic files in accordance with recognized protocols; follows rules and regulations applicable for FERPA, Title IX, etc. compliance
  •  Provides referral services for students to appropriate campus resources for tutoring, counseling, etc.
  • Attends student orientation events; disseminates information regarding registration procedures
  • Prepares and produces statistical reports and other formal records in accordance with applicable laws and procedures
  • Establishes and maintains a record-keeping system for student advising and outcomes

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with students and colleagues
  • Ability to collaborate and work well in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently to establish/meet deadlines, goals, initiatives
  • Ability to take initiative and problem solve
  • Ability to leverage technology to improve workplace processes

Qualifications:

Required:

  • A master’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or a related field
  • A minimum of 2+ years advising experience
  • Evidence of strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Flexibility appropriate for a dynamic, collaborative work setting 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft products (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams), and a Learning Management System

Desired:

  • Experience implementing technology to improve business processes and create efficiencies
  • Experience creating and conducting webinars and online group advising sessions
