Job Details
The Department of Engineering Technology at The University of Toledo College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to join the faculty of its ABET-ETAC accredited Construction Engineering Technology program.
The ideal start date is August 2021.
Our goal is to attract creative, world-class faculty to enrich the educational experience of our Construction Engineering Technology students.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will collaboratively develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories, create innovative instructional materials and laboratory experiences, develop external funding for applied research and projects with industry, establish and sustain a record of scholarly achievement, contribute to program assessment and accreditation activities, advise students, and provide service to our institution and to their profession.
Successful applicants should be able to draw from relevant industrial experiences and to develop and teach a variety of Construction Engineering Technology courses in the area of Building Information Modeling (BIM), the application of computational science in building design and construction, and Internet of things (IoT) - enabled smart built environment.
In addition, the ability and technical expertise to teach fundamental courses, such construction materials and methods, structural design, construction estimating, and scheduling or project management is desired.
Our students and faculty are increasingly diverse. We are looking for candidates who have experience in teaching students from diverse backgrounds and who actively cultivate inclusive environments in research, teaching, and service.
Opportunities for research collaboration with other colleagues throughout the College of Engineering and University are readily available and strongly encouraged.
Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Building Information Modeling (BIM), the application of computational science in design and construction, and the Internet of things (IoT) - enabled smart built environment.
Applicants must have:
(1) a Ph.D. degree in civil engineering, architecture, construction, project management or a closely aligned engineering or engineering technology field from an accredited institution,
(2) strong oral and written communication, computer and presentation skills;
(3) effective and engaging teaching;
(4) passion to conduct applied research and develop partnerships with industry, government and/or non-profit agencies.
Evidence of three years of relevant industrial experience and a professional engineering license are preferred.
A record of relevant professional activity and engagement with service activities at the community or national level, innovation in teaching pedagogy at the undergraduate course level, and engagement with undergraduate research projects are desired.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to engineering technology education and the role of a technology-based education within the engineering education community and industry.
