General Description
College of the Sequoias Community College District is seeking a part time, 10 month/ 20 hour a week, classified position to serve in the Health Center. Reports to dean of Academic Services in coordination with student services. The position reports directly to the Health Center Director with the primary assignment to work with students at the Visalia, Tulare and Hanford campuses.

The Food Pantry Coordinator will meet with students to determine food insecurity and nutritional needs, refer to outside resources; provide access to food pantry to help students achieve success while attending COS. The Food Pantry Coordinator will provide leadership through outreach to students, campus and community partners. These practices include but are not limited to the following: regular and frequent contact with all students under their assignment; logging/tracking individual student progress/records; flexible including evenings, planning and tracking relevant budgets and expenditures.

This position is assigned to the Visalia Campus, Part-Time Monday - Friday 20 hours weekly, 10-months. Initial placement is at $24.90.

Job Duties
In addition to, and related to, services provided by COS counselors:
  • Identify and track students experiencing food insecurity or have basic needs for additional food.
  • Coordinate and implement a case management approach to meeting with individual students and groups to address food insecurity needs.
  • Record student visits and individualized comments for each student after each session.
  • Coordinate between instructors, student services staff, counselors and administrators to enhance the success of students.
  • Oversee and develop reports to assist in the assessment of the Hunger Free funds expenditures; monitor grant funding and make recommendations regarding allocation of resources.
  • Stock and order food items for pantry and box/bag distribution.
  • Oversee development and distribution of Grocery gift cards for perishable items.
  • Facilitate students applying for food assistance programs through the California Department of Social Services by aiding in the completion of applications, providing appropriate program verification documents.
  • Establish local and regional collaboration with community partners/businesses pertaining to student basic needs such as food banks and other non-profit agencies.
  • Coordinate district wide food pantry efforts; maintain a food pantry distribution system on each of the three campuses.
  • Assess the needs for food distribution activities on each campus; work closely with campus Provost to develop equitable food pantry services.
  • Use a variety of software to compose, format and prepare correspondence, reports, publicity materials, surveys, brochures and presentations.
  • Provide direction and coordination for food pantry student workers and volunteers
  • Participate in Health Center monthly staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

Any combination equivalent to:
  • Food, Health and Safety Certificate/ Serve Safe Certificate (can be obtained upon hiring).
  • Record keeping skills and experience
  • Strong critical thinking and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently while developing strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, student services, and student service units. The individuals must be able to exercise excellent professional judgment and discretion, making decisions on a regular basis that impact student welfare and the District.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates of Science Degree, degree in progress or professional experience in student services, food pantry services, customer service and/or the equivalent.
  • Skill assessing basic needs of students, developing appropriate remedies and evaluating and assessing effectiveness of student support intervention.
  • Experience working with under-represented populations and the ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple work priorities.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's license
  • An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias.

College of the Sequoias is a two-year California community college offering educational and enrichment programs for the residents of its district in Tulare and Kings counties. The college was established in 1925 and moved to its current 62-acre main campus site in Visalia in 1940.

In addition to the campus in Visalia, COS operates a full-service center in Hanford that is also home to the college's police and fire academies.

COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013. It is a full-service college center and the home of COS' agriculture program
