The Assistant Dean of Admissions serves as the principal recruitment officer for the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, providing leadership and strategic direction to maximize and sustain enrollment consistent with GSDM's mission to build on a culture of inclusivity and academic excellence through the recruitment of diverse and outstanding students. The Assistant Dean of Admissions reports directly to the Dean of the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide a strong and visible leadership role in recruitment and retention of students to the DMD Program, DMD Advanced Standing Program, post-doctoral and post-graduate programs;
  • Supervise the Director of Admissions, admissions representatives and related support staff;
  • Develop and refine the application review process within a holistic admissions approach;
  • Work closely with pre-professional advisors and various members of the Admissions Committee regarding applicants;
  • Oversee the criminal background check policy, process, and credentialing for all entering students and residents, including the undergraduate certification requirement for all entering four-year DMD students;
  • Oversee and execute all offers of admission to prospective predoctoral and postdoctoral students;
  • Collaborate closely with the Boston University Medical Campus Student Financial Aid Director and staff to remain updated on student financial information;
  • Administer and manage the scholarship budget and SDM endowed funds for entering students in collaboration with the Office of the Dean;
  • Assist the school with its plans for the retention of first-year students;
  • Oversee the collection and assessment of documents required for accreditation standards;
  • Serve as a member or Chair of the Admissions Committee;
  • Serve as member of the School's Executive Committee and present matriculation and enrollment statistics;
  • Represent the Dean and GSDM as required at University meetings and external events related to Admissions;
  • Additional duties as directed or requested by the Dean
Required Skills
  • DDS/DMD degree preferred; terminal degree required
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience at a CODA-accredited academic institution
  • Experience in supervising professional level staff
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and lead an energetic team
  • Capability to develop and mentor staff
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, including written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in managing budgets to meet operational goals
  • Outcomes-oriented and with experience in data analytics
  • Desire and determination to meet institutional goals while adhering to university policy and procedures
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to engage current students, faculty, and alumni in the recruitment and enrollment of all new students

Compensation:

Salary will be commensurate with experience and academic rank.
