The Center for Inclusive Excellence (CIE) works proactively to address systemic inequities through professional learning, community building, advocacy, policy recommendations, and organizational structures while facilitating an integrated vision and shared responsibility for prioritizing and advancing institutional goals. In collaboration with and under the direction of the AVP for Faculty and Staff Diversity, the Staff Learning and Development Specialist will envision, manage, and direct the ways in which the CIE interacts with students, staff, and faculty including the implementation of the mission, vision, strategic plan, goals, and objectives. They will serve as a primary representative of the CIE in all campus initiatives to improve representation, climate, and success for staff. The Staff Learning and Development Specialist will lead efforts to conceptualize, design, develop and facilitate training and learning opportunities for staff focused on diversity and equity, including workshops and learning communities on implicit bias, inclusive and anti-racist student services, professional skills relevant for professional advancement, and other topics as needed to support diversity initiatives across the University. The Staff Learning and Development Specialist will collaborate with other staff in the Center for Inclusive Excellence to develop and facilitate training for faculty and students as needed and track and assess outcomes and staff needs in order to make recommendations to meet strategic goals

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
- Advanced degree in relevant field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design and delivery of training with an emphasis on complex issues facing organizations including diversity and inclusion, leadership development, compliance
- Proven knowledge of diversity and social justice issues including but not limited to: race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious, and class background
- Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse range of staff, faculty, and administrators
- Strong public speaking skills
- Experience working in or with either an academic environment or other shared governance models
- Experience working with a diverse employee population audience
- Experience developing marketing and communication to support training and events
- Experience managing events
- Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and excellent judgment in responding to controversial, sensitive, and/or emotional issues and situations
- Expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in inclusive and cross-cultural communication
- Experience or has demonstrated commitment to serving underrepresented populations
- Familiarity with the Canvas learning management system
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $6,630 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,908 - $11,481 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
